General overview of Wurmple
Wurmple is a Bug-type Pokémon introduced in the third generation. Its English name is Wurmple and its Japanese name is ケムッソ. It is a very common worm Pokémon in the Hoenn region, often encountered from the very first levels of the game. Wurmple is designed as a starter Pokémon for learning basic mechanics, both in battle and for evolution.
In the Pokédex, Wurmple is described as a small worm living primarily in trees and forests. It feeds on leaves and defends itself with its toxic spikes. Its size is small and its weight is low, expressed in kg, which reflects its role as a fragile but accessible creature for beginner Trainers.
Type, stats and weaknesses
Wurmple is exclusively of the Bug type. This type gives it limited natural resistances but also several notable weaknesses. It is particularly vulnerable to Fire, Flying and Rock-type moves, making it a Pokémon with little staying power in prolonged battles.
Its base stats are very low. HP is low, Attack and Defense remain limited, and Speed is insufficient to gain the upper hand. Wurmple is therefore not intended to deal significant damage, but rather to evolve quickly in order to reach a more effective form.
Moves and available capabilities
In terms of moves, Wurmple has a very restricted arsenal. It mainly learns Tackle and Bug Bite, contact moves with low power. These moves nevertheless allow players to become familiar with the battle system and PP management from the very first levels.
Depending on the version, Wurmple can also learn support moves or moves with effects, which are useful early in the game. The TMs available for Wurmple remain limited, and it is generally not optimised for complex or competitive movesets.
Evolution and special features
Evolution is the central element of Wurmple's profile. From a certain level, it can evolve randomly into either Silcoon or Cascoon. This evolution depends on an internal value invisible to the player, making each capture potentially different.
This evolution mechanic is emblematic of Wurmple and encourages the capture of several specimens, male or female, in order to obtain the different final forms. This makes it an interesting Pokémon for completing the Pokédex.
Capture, location and breeding
Wurmple is easily captured on the first routes and in Hoenn's forests. Its catch rate is high, making it accessible without particular effort. It often appears in trees or grassy areas.
For breeding, Wurmple belongs to the Bug group. It can produce eggs with compatible partners, although this mechanic is rarely exploited for this Pokémon due to its low combat potential.
Interest for players and trading cards
For players, Wurmple is primarily an educational Pokémon. It helps players understand evolution, types, weaknesses and the basics of stats. It is rarely kept in a final team, but remains memorable for its unique evolution system.
In the trading card game, Wurmple appears as a low-cost basic card. It is used primarily to evolve into its higher forms. Wurmple cards are appreciated by collectors for completing evolutionary lines and expansions related to Hoenn.
