Silcoon
It was thought that Silcoon could endure hunger and consumed nothing before its evolution. It is now known that this Pokémon quenches its thirst by collecting rainwater deposited on its silk.

General overview of Silcoon
Silcoon is a Pokémon of the Bug type belonging to the second evolutionary stage of Wurmple. Its English name is Silcoon and its Japanese name is カラサリス. Silcoon takes the form of a rigid cocoon entirely dedicated to its transformation, which strongly influences its role in battle and its strategic interest for players.
In the Pokédex, Silcoon is described as a motionless cocoon that concentrates all its energy in its silk shell. This evolutionary stage is essential before accessing Beautifly, making it a key Pokémon in the early hours of the game, particularly for Trainers looking to complete their regional Pokédex quickly.
Evolution and how to obtain
Silcoon is obtained by evolving Wurmple from level 7. This evolution depends on the Pokémon's personality value, which means that not all Wurmple necessarily evolve into Silcoon — some become Cascoon instead. This mechanic makes Silcoon slightly less predictable to obtain, but it remains accessible very early in the adventure.
Once Silcoon is obtained, it automatically evolves into Beautifly after gaining one additional level. This quick evolution makes Silcoon a transitional Pokémon, rarely kept in a team for long, but essential for accessing its final form.
Type, stats and battle role
Silcoon is a pure Bug-type Pokémon. Its stat profile is oriented almost exclusively towards Defense, with very low Attack points. This distribution reflects its status as a cocoon, unable to launch powerful moves but capable of withstanding certain physical hits early in the game.
Its main interest in battle lies in its ability to stall. It can be used to absorb hits, gain experience or wear down the opponent, but it is not designed to deal significant damage. Its classic weaknesses to Fire, Flying and Rock-type moves leave it vulnerable if poorly protected.
Moves and available capabilities
Silcoon's moveset is extremely limited, which is intentionally consistent with its evolutionary stage. It learns essentially defensive or neutral moves, useful only for surviving until the next evolution.
Harden, used to increase Defense
String Shot, which reduces the opponent's Speed
These moves make Silcoon a passive Pokémon, rarely used for advanced strategies, but functional for securing a quick evolution.
Interest for players and collectors
For players focused on optimisation, Silcoon is not meant to remain in a team for long. Its interest is mainly tied to evolving into Beautifly, a far more offensive and versatile Pokémon. For collectors, however, Silcoon is an important piece of Wurmple's evolutionary chain, particularly in the Diamond, Pearl and Legends versions.
In terms of Pokémon cards, Silcoon regularly appears as a common or uncommon card, often with defensive effects. These cards are appreciated in certain slow strategies or in theme decks focused on quick evolution.
Additional Pokédex information
Silcoon measures approximately 0.6 metres and weighs roughly 10 kilograms. It can be male or female, although this distinction has no impact on its evolution. It belongs to the Bug egg group, making it compatible with other Pokémon of the same category for breeding.
In Hoenn's forests and certain areas such as the Petalburg Woods in later generations, Silcoon is sometimes available directly in the wild, although this is rarer than its preceding stage. Its Shiny version retains a slightly modified hue, sought after by the most patient collectors.
