Detailed information

Overview of Totodile

Totodile is a Water-type Pokémon originating from the Johto region. Its Japanese name is ワニノコ. Known for its extremely powerful jaw, this Big Jaw Pokémon is appreciated by Trainers for its ability to learn strong physical moves right from the first levels. In the Pokédex, Totodile appears with a number specific to each game, and it is generally presented as a highly appreciated Water starter thanks to its balanced stats and high Attack power.

Its modest height and weight make it an ideal companion for the start of an adventure, but once it starts leveling up it becomes a formidable fighter. Its moves based on biting, scratching, and even Water moves like Aqua Jet or Water Pulse make it capable of handling many enemies. From a strategic standpoint, Totodile remains playable across several generations, and its page is often consulted by Trainers seeking an effective progression up to its evolution at level 18.

Evolution and useful information

Totodile's evolution follows a straightforward path: it evolves into Croconaw and then into Feraligatr. The first stage of evolution comes quickly, allowing its base stats to increase without much wait. Totodile remains available in several generations, notably in Gold, Silver, and Crystal, and then in their remakes. Players who know Totodile from other games will find a Pokémon consistent in its style based on brute force and constant pressure through physical moves.

The Pokédex information states that its jaw can crush nearly anything it bites, which is reflected in moves like Bite and Crunch. Its catch rate remains reasonable, making it easy to obtain outside of versions where it is offered as a starter Pokémon. The professor in Johto games often describes it as energetic, playful, but a bit unpredictable.

Stats, moves, and abilities

Totodile has a base stat spread oriented toward Attack and decent Defense. Its Speed is lower, but that does not prevent it from applying pressure with significant damage output. On a competitive sheet, you often find Water moves like Water Gun, Aqua Jet, and Hydro Pump, as well as physical moves like Scratch, Bite, and Swords Dance to boost its power.

The TMs available in several generations allow it to learn Aqua Tail, Ice Punch, and certain Ground or Fighting moves depending on the game. This provides interesting type coverage, particularly against Grass and Dragon types using Ice. Trainers can also use classic HMs to progress through the region, making it a versatile companion.

Utility in games and for collectors

In Pokémon games, Totodile is particularly useful for beginner teams thanks to its offensive range and its fast evolution. Its max stat level depends on EV values, but it can reach notable power without requiring complex optimization. Its Water-oriented category allows it to shine in several Gym battles, and its natural bulk makes it easier for new Trainers to learn the game.

In Pokémon GO or in modern games, Totodile has a decent CP and moves like Water Pulse and Hydro Pump. The stat table varies by generation, but its progression remains consistent. Its move list also includes heavy physical hits, making it a Pokémon appreciated in low-level raids.

Additional characteristics

Totodile often appears as a curious and playful Pokémon. Its bright eyes and dynamic behavior make it a memorable starter. Its presence in Sun, Moon, Ruby, and Sapphire depends on the version, but it remains highly sought after for its simple and effective design. Experienced Trainers know how to exploit its Defense and Attack to build a reliable offensive set.

The distinction between male and female has no major impact on its abilities. Its primary ability varies by game, but it generally provides a useful bonus in battle. With its direct style and its evolution into the very powerful Feraligatr, Totodile holds a prime spot on teams that bet on raw strength.
