Croconaw
Once Croconaw has clamped its jaws on its foe, it will absolutely not let go. Because the tips of its fangs are curved like fishhooks, they cannot be yanked out once they have sunk in.

Detailed information
Overview of Croconaw
Croconaw is a Water-type Pokémon originating from the Johto region. It is the direct evolution of Totodile, which explains why many Trainers use it from the very first levels to take advantage of its growing power. In the Pokédex, Croconaw appears as a ferocious Pokémon with a fearsome jaw, capable of dealing enormous physical damage as soon as it reaches a good level. Its category highlights its brute strength, making it an excellent choice for Trainer battles and raids.
On the characteristic side, Croconaw has good Speed, a solid base Attack, and decent Defense. Its height and weight increase noticeably compared to Totodile, giving it an imposing presence on the battlefield. Players appreciate its direct style: powerful bites, fast strikes, and Water moves that improve well with level.
Pokédex information and evolution
Croconaw is registered under a Pokédex number in Totodile's line and evolves into Feraligatr at level 30. Its evolution makes its power even more striking, notably through a significant increase in Attack and Defense. Croconaw's catch rate remains reasonable when encountered in the wild in certain games, but since it is often a starter Pokémon, it is mainly obtained through evolving the small Totodile.
Its design recalls a young crocodile in full growth: the body is more robust, the eyes convey a certain ferocity, and the claws become an additional weapon on top of the jaw. Games such as Ruby, Sapphire, Sun, and Moon feature various descriptions highlighting its energetic temperament and its tendency to test its strength at every opportunity.
Moves, abilities, and battle style
Croconaw naturally learns many Water moves such as Water Gun, Water Pulse, and Aqua Jet, as well as physical moves such as Bite, Scratch, and Crunch. With TMs, it can also learn useful moves like Ice Punch, giving it good offensive coverage against Ground, Grass, Dragon, and Ghost Pokémon. Its ability varies by generation, but it often helps boost the power of its physical moves.
Its overall power increases rapidly with level, making it an excellent Pokémon for progressing through the adventure. Its move list and access to Hydro Pump toward the end of its progression give players a wide range of strategies. It is also worth noting that Croconaw benefits from Dance moves and moves that boost Attack, though its primary role remains dealing direct and powerful hits.
Utility for players and role in games
For a Trainer seeking a reliable Water Pokémon, Croconaw is a very accessible and effective choice. It adapts equally well to classic battles and to harder fights thanks to its mix of brute force and strong Water-element moves. Its availability depends on the version, but when chosen as a starter Pokémon, it ensures solid progression right from the start.
In Pokémon GO, Croconaw can reach a respectable max CP with decent Attack and Defense values. Its Water moves remain effective in battles and in certain low-level raids. Its female and male forms show no notable difference, but players appreciate its unique silhouette.
Thanks to its physical power, its versatile Water type, and its smooth natural progression, Croconaw is among the most appreciated adventure Pokémon, both for battles and for card collectors wishing to complete their sets dedicated to the Totodile line.
