Detailed information
Overview of Feraligatr
Feraligatr is a Water-type Pokémon, known by its Japanese name オーダイル (Odairu). This Johto Pokémon is the final evolution of Totodile and then Croconaw, and it appears in the Pokédex as a powerful fighter centered on brute force and Speed. Its large jaw, one of the most fearsome of its generation, allows it to dominate many opponents through Water and Dragon attacks inspired by its physical power. In games, Trainers appreciate its ability to progress from level 30 for Croconaw and then reach its final form, providing excellent strategic information for a solid team.
With its imposing size and high weight, Feraligatr makes an impression as soon as it appears in battle. The Pokédex highlights its aggressive behavior when it charges its enemies, and its surprising Speed for a Pokémon of this category. Its national Pokédex number places it among the iconic starters of Johto. Strategically, its base stat spread combines Attack and Defense well, allowing it to absorb hits and then counter-attack with massive damage. For players, understanding its Water moves and powerful fangs is essential to unlocking its full potential.
Evolution and key characteristics
In terms of evolution, Feraligatr represents the final stage of the Totodile - Croconaw - Feraligatr trio. Its final form unlocks more powerful moves, notably Waterfall, Hydro Pump, Ice Beam, Crunch, and variants like Ice Fang. Its Pokémon category referencing its jaw speaks to its exceptional strength and its aptitude to use Bite, Water Gun, and Aqua Jet early in the adventure. Players can also strengthen its moves via TMs and HMs depending on the generation.
Ground, Ghost, and Fire opponents are among those it can fight effectively in many situations, especially thanks to its good Speed and Water moves. Later generations also give it access to Hidden Power, increasing its strategic flexibility.
Info for Pokémon players
On the battlefield, Feraligatr benefits from a very high base Attack, making it capable of dealing massive damage even without boosts. At level 50, it can reach interesting max values depending on its nature and training. In raids or in Pokémon GO, it is often used as a solid Water attacker, especially when it has Waterfall or Hydro Pump — two extremely powerful moves in that context. Its catch rate in the main series games is standard for a final starter.
Its decent Speed allows it to surprise slower opponents, and its Defense makes it sturdy enough to take a few hits. The type chart shows a weakness to Grass and Electric types, but it compensates with many varied moves, notably Ice to handle Grass threats.
Pokémon cards and collecting
In Pokémon cards, Feraligatr has several versions, notably in the Silver, Ruby, Black, and Ultra series. Some cards focus on its role as a Water attacker, highlighting moves like Aqua or powerful attacks that recall its massive jaw. Price varies depending on rarity, edition, and condition of the card. Collectors often appreciate illustrations where its massive form is prominently displayed.
Useful moves and abilities
The move list a Trainer can exploit includes notably:
Waterfall and Hydro Pump to maximize Water power
Ice Beam and Ice Fang to cover Grass and Dragon types
Crunch and Bite to take advantage of its powerful jaw
Strength and other HMs to progress in older games
Feraligatr can also learn Aqua Jet depending on the generation, providing useful priority to finish off an opponent. Its move pool makes it an excellent choice for players seeking a complete Water Pokémon, capable of holding its own against many opponents while remaining reliable over the long term.
