Overview of Slowbro
Slowbro is known in Japanese as ヤドラン (Yadoran). This Pokémon from Kanto is the direct evolution of Slowpoke and belongs to the Water and Psychic species most appreciated for its high Defense, solid HP, and access to many effective Psychic attacks. Its evolution occurs when a Shellder clamps onto its tail, creating a more robust new form perfectly adapted for prolonged combat. For players seeking a reliable tank capable of absorbing a large number of hits while landing powerful strikes, Slowbro remains an essential choice in all generations.
Typing, characteristics, and Pokédex information
Slowbro has the dual Water and Psychic typing, combining Defense and versatility. Thanks to this combination, it resists Fighting, Fire, Ice, and Psychic well, but remains vulnerable to Ghost, Dark, Grass, Ground, and Poison. In terms of stats, Slowbro shines with very impressive Defense and Special Defense, a high HP total, and a decent Attack that allows it to use physical moves like Ice Punch or Confusion. Its Speed remains low, but this flaw is compensated by its ability to block most attacks thrown at it.
From the Pokédex's perspective, it stands just over one and a half meters tall and weighs around 78 kg. Its description varies by game, but always mentions the Shellder clamped onto its tail, granting it a unique form and superior power. This distinctive feature makes it a Pokémon very easy to recognize, whether in its classic form or its Galarian form, which alters its role and battle style.
Evolution, level, and forms
Slowbro's evolution is straightforward: Slowpoke evolves when a Shellder bites its tail. There is no specific level, unlike many Pokémon, but the event is described as a natural reaction in an aquatic environment. The Galarian form, meanwhile, leans more toward Fighting and Poison, offering an interesting variant for strategies based on control and poison damage.
It is important to note that Slowbro also has an alternative evolution branch: Slowking, which depends on a trade while holding a special item. Players must therefore choose between a highly stable defensive tank or a more purely Psychic-oriented version.
Moves, strategic set, and important attacks
Slowbro accesses several Water moves like Water Pulse and Surf, but also numerous Psychic attacks such as Confusion, Psychic, Future Sight, and Zen Headbutt. This broad set makes it easy to adapt strategy depending on opponents. It can also learn physical moves like Ice Punch or support techniques such as Curse, Toxic, or even Mud-Slap to disrupt the opponent.
In battle, its main strength rests on its defensive base. By investing in Defense and Special Defense EVs, you obtain a wall that is nearly impossible to break through without super-effective attacks. Perfect IVs are particularly important when looking to maximize its HP and tanking potential.
Capture, raids, and level utility
In modern games, Slowbro is often caught in areas near beaches or rivers. Its catch rate can be a bit challenging due to its high HP, but a good status move or HP reduction strategy quickly solves the problem. For raids, Slowbro is primarily used as a support Pokémon thanks to its bulk and its ability to absorb damage while landing consistent hits. Its max CP allows it to perform effectively in long battles, especially against Fighting or Fire types.
Its battle behavior is simple to understand: it hits slower than most Pokémon, but responds with heavy attacks and stays standing for a very long time. This consistency makes it an excellent choice for beginner players and for strategists alike, looking for a reliable defensive-role Pokémon.
