Detailed information

Overview of Slowpoke

Slowpoke, known in Japanese as ヤドン, is a Water and Psychic type Pokémon greatly appreciated for its laid-back attitude. This creature is distinguished by its slow behavior and its tail, which regrows easily — a trait that has inspired several Pokédex entries across different generations. Slowpoke evolves at level 37 into Slowbro, or can also become Slowking via a held item or a trade depending on the game. Players often encounter Slowpoke near rivers, beaches, or other wild areas by the water's edge. Although it appears harmless, its battle potential rests on Psychic moves such as Confusion, Psychic, and Psyshock.

Stats and useful information for players

In terms of stats, Slowpoke has good Defense and solid HP, but its Speed remains extremely low. This doesn't prevent some players from making it a strategic Pokémon in the early stages of a game, thanks to its ability to take hits. Its weight is in the normal range for its family and its size suggests a bulky but resilient Pokémon. The base value table clearly shows that Slowpoke is not built for Speed but rather for absorbing damage and striking with Psychic attacks. Its Pokédex number varies by region, but Slowpoke can be found in almost every generation of the main games.

Moves, TMs, and recommended attacks

Slowpoke naturally learns Psychic moves such as Confusion, Psychic, and Psyshock. It can also learn Ice-type moves depending on the TMs available in each version, allowing it to surprise Ground or Rock type opponents. Players can also teach it Water moves via HMs or TMs depending on the game. The best sets often include support moves like Amnesia to boost Special Defense, or more offensive moves suited to the role desired. PP costs are generally standard and allow Slowpoke to be used comfortably during exploration.

Slowpoke's evolution

At level 37, Slowpoke naturally evolves into Slowbro, a Pokémon more oriented toward tanking with even greater Defense. To obtain Slowking, a specific held item or a trade is often required depending on the version. The choice between Slowbro and Slowking depends on playstyle: Slowbro focuses on pure physical bulk, while Slowking has more offensively oriented Psychic options and sometimes Poison traits in certain variants. Eggs from Slowpoke follow the usual mechanics, with a random chance of male or female.

Encounters, locations, and Pokédex information

Slowpoke can be found in various regions such as Kanto, Johto, or Galar, often near rivers, beaches, or on certain islands. Pokédex entries often describe its tail, which can fall off painlessly and then regrow. Its placid nature means it rarely reacts quickly to attacks, which also reflects its very low Speed in battles. Trainers wishing to catch a Slowpoke can find it in areas with wild Pokémon accessible from early in the game in many versions. Capture is straightforward, as Slowpoke does not possess great aggressive strength.

Slowpoke in games and strategy

In the main games, Slowpoke remains an easy Pokémon to play for beginners thanks to its HP and Defense. Its lack of Speed, however, requires anticipating incoming hits. Players who want to maximize its potential can evolve it into Slowbro or Slowking depending on their needs. In Pokémon GO, Slowpoke has modest max CP but can serve in certain lighter raids or to fill out a Water and Psychic roster. The Candy cost is low, which makes its evolution quick.

Cards and collecting

In the Pokémon TCG, Slowpoke appears in numerous sets across several generations, often depicted in humorous scenes that highlight its detached expression. Its cards generally focus on Psychic or Water attacks with a low Energy cost. Collectors particularly appreciate the Shiny versions or cards from recent expansions featuring Galarian Slowpoke, which has a different design oriented toward Poison and Psychic. These variations add an extra dimension for fans looking to complete their collection with all available forms.
