Slakoth

Slakoth's heart beats only once a minute. Whatever happens, it simply slumps there, motionless. It is very rare to see this Pokémon move.

Detailed information

General overview of Slakoth

Slakoth is a Normal type Pokémon introduced in the Hoenn region. Its English name is Slakoth and its Japanese name is ナマケロ. This Pokémon is known for its extremely lazy behavior, a central element both in the Pokédex and in its gameplay. Slakoth spends the majority of its time motionless, which directly influences its stats, its attacks, and its Ability.

In the main games, Slakoth is generally available quite early, particularly in the forests and wooded areas of Hoenn such as Petalburg Woods. It appears at low levels, making it an accessible but deceptive Pokémon for beginner players. Despite a weak base stat total, it has an interesting strategic potential once understood and properly managed.

Stats and base data

Slakoth's base stats are very low compared to other Pokémon of the same level. Its attack, defense, and speed are limited, which makes it poorly performing in direct battle. On the other hand, its HP are decent for a Pokémon at the start of the game. These values strongly influence the IVs sought by players wishing to optimize it from capture.

In the Pokédex, Slakoth is described as a Pokémon unable to move for long without stopping. Its size is small and its light weight reflects its frail appearance. This information is important for players attentive to breeding details and to mechanics related to weight and certain moves.

Ability and impact in battle

Slakoth's main Ability is Truant. This Ability prevents it from attacking every other turn, which considerably reduces its effectiveness in battle. This point is crucial to understand for competitive players. As long as Slakoth has not evolved, this Ability strongly limits its use in strategy, even with good IVs.

This Ability also influences Slakoth's perception in raids or prolonged battles. It is rarely used in these contexts, except for specific challenges or theme teams.

Available attacks and moves

Slakoth's movepool remains simple. It mainly learns Normal type attacks such as Scratch, Body Slam, or Slash as it gains levels. These attacks have decent power but are penalized by the Truant Ability.

  • Basic physical attacks suited to the start of the game

  • Yawn move useful for controlling the battle's pace

  • Limited access to TMs before evolving

Players looking to optimize Slakoth can temporarily use it as support, particularly to weaken or put an opponent to sleep before switching Pokémon.

Evolution and player interest

Slakoth evolves into Vigoroth from a certain level. This evolution marks a major turning point. Vigoroth loses the Truant Ability and becomes much more viable in battle. This prospect makes Slakoth interesting to train despite its initial weaknesses.

In the games Ruby, Sapphire, Emerald, and their remakes, Slakoth remains a choice that rewards patience. Players who invest time are rewarded with a powerful evolutionary line in the long run.

Cards and collecting

In the trading card game, Slakoth appears regularly as a common card. These cards highlight its lazy appearance with low-cost attacks but limited effects. For collectors, Slakoth is appreciated for completing Hoenn-based decks or those based on slow and defensive mechanics.

Its simple and recognizable design also makes it an easy card to identify in a collection, especially in series related to the Ruby and Sapphire generations.
