General overview of Vigoroth
Vigoroth is a Pokémon of the Normal type introduced in the third generation in the Hoenn region. Its English name is Vigoroth and its Japanese name is ヤルキモノ. It represents the direct evolution of Slakoth and is an intermediate stage before Slaking. Vigoroth is known for its extremely agitated behavior and its constant energy, which is reflected both in its Pokédex description and in its use in battle.
Unlike its previous form, Vigoroth does not suffer from the Truant Ability. This makes it a Pokémon far more reliable for players looking for a fast and aggressive fighter at an intermediate level. Its evolution into Slaking is triggered automatically from level 36, which leaves a wide window of strategic use.
Type, role, and evolution
Vigoroth is a pure Normal type Pokémon. This type grants it only one weakness against Fighting type attacks, but also a total immunity to Ghost type moves. This characteristic makes it an interesting counter in certain specific situations.
Its evolution follows a simple line:
Slakoth evolves into Vigoroth at level 18
Vigoroth evolves into Slaking at level 36
This intermediate phase is often considered the most effective of the family, as Vigoroth combines speed, reliable attacks, and the absence of an Ability penalty.
Base stats and potential
Vigoroth's base stats are balanced but oriented toward fast offense. It has good HP for a non-defensive Pokémon, a decent attack, and above all excellent speed for its level. This allows it to strike first in many battles.
Its stats make it a relevant choice for battles in the main game, particularly before obtaining Slaking. EVs are generally invested in attack and speed to maximize its offensive pressure.
Useful attacks and moves
Vigoroth naturally learns several effective attacks based on physical contact. Claw-based attacks are central to its gameplay, reinforcing its identity as a frenzied fighter. It can learn Scratch, Body Slam, Brick Break, or Slash via TM.
Thanks to its wide Normal movepool, Vigoroth can adapt to different opponents. It is capable of using interesting coverage attacks to surprise Pokémon that are normally considered natural counters.
Ability and battle style
Vigoroth's main Ability is Vital Spirit, which prevents it from falling asleep. This Ability is particularly useful against strategies based on sleep and further reinforces its consistency in battle.
Its battle style relies on constant aggression. It is designed to attack without interruption, force opposing switches, and maintain pressure through its high speed. In solo play, this allows battles to be chained quickly without relying on items.
Vigoroth in the Pokédex and the cards
In the Pokédex, Vigoroth is described as incapable of staying still. If it stops moving, its stress level rises dangerously. This description perfectly reflects its gameplay and design.
On trading cards, Vigoroth is often depicted as an aggressive and fast Pokémon. Its cards highlight its physical attacks and decent endurance, making it an appreciated card in certain decks based on fast pressure.
Overall utility for players
Vigoroth is a Pokémon greatly appreciated for its reliability and ease of use. It is available relatively early in the adventure and offers excellent output up to its last level before evolution. For players seeking an effective Pokémon without a negative Ability penalty, Vigoroth remains a solid and consistent choice.
