General overview of Slaking
Slaking is a Normal type Pokémon, known in English as Slaking and in Japanese as ケッキング. It represents the final evolution of the line beginning with Slakoth, followed by Vigoroth. Despite its nonchalant appearance, Slaking has base stats among the highest of all non-legendary Pokémon, making it a very particular creature to exploit in battle.
In the Pokédex, Slaking is often described as extremely powerful but lazy, which translates directly into its signature Ability. For players, this creates a unique contrast between impressive raw strength and a significant strategic constraint to manage.
Type and evolution of Slaking
Slaking is exclusively Normal type. This type grants it overall neutrality against many attacks, but also a notable weakness to the Fighting type. Its evolution is straightforward on paper but requires patience during progression.

This evolution marks a radical gameplay change. Where Vigoroth is fast and aggressive, Slaking becomes slow but terribly destructive, which forces players to adapt their way of playing.
Base stats and potential
Slaking's base stats are one of its main arguments. Its attack and HP reach very high values, placing it at the top among Normal type Pokémon. Its defense is decent, while its speed and special defense are more average.
In practice, this means that Slaking can deal massive damage in a single hit. Its base stat total surpasses that of many iconic Pokémon, making it very attractive on paper, especially for players seeking raw power.
Ability and impact in battle
Slaking possesses the Truant Ability, which forces it to skip every other turn. This Ability is at the heart of all discussions surrounding this Pokémon. It strongly limits its effectiveness in direct battle, especially against opponents capable of setting up or exploiting the inactive turns.
For experienced players, this Ability can however be partially circumvented through specific strategies, such as switching Pokémon, using items, or well-chosen support attacks.
Attacks and strategic options
Slaking's movepool is very wide and perfectly suited to its offensive stats. It can learn many powerful physical Normal type attacks, as well as interesting coverage moves.

In strategic battles, Slaking is often used as a pressure Pokémon, capable of forcing opposing switches thanks to the threat of its damage output.
Slaking in Pokémon cards and Pokémon GO
In the card game, Slaking exists in several versions, including ex cards and sought-after editions for collectors. These cards highlight its high stats and its role as a massive hitter, often with mechanics reflecting its lazy side.
In Pokémon GO, Slaking is appreciated for its very high maximum CP and its good DPS on certain attacks. It is sometimes used in raids or for Gym defense, even though its weakness to the Fighting type remains a point to watch.
Weaknesses and limits to know
Despite its qualities, Slaking has clear weaknesses. Its vulnerability to Fighting attacks makes it sensitive to many popular counters. Its Ability also limits its effectiveness over time, especially in fast competitive battles.
When used well, Slaking nonetheless remains an iconic Pokémon, appreciated both for its power and its unique identity, whether in battle, in the Pokédex, or in the trading card game.
