Detailed information

Overview of Scolipede

Scolipede is a Poison and Bug type Pokémon introduced in the Unova region. It is known by its Japanese name ペンドラー. This Pokémon represents the final evolution of Venipede and then Whirlipede, and stands out for its high Speed and strong offensive pressure. With its numerous stingers, horns, and segmented tail, Scolipede is built for fast and aggressive combat.

In the Pokédex, Scolipede is listed with a specific number from the fifth generation. It displays an imposing size for an insect and a relatively high weight in kg, which reinforces its role as a direct threat on the battlefield. Its decent HP combined with excellent Speed allow it to attack before the majority of opponents.

Type, Weaknesses, and Resistances

The Poison type combined with the Bug type gives Scolipede an interesting offensive profile but also well-identified weaknesses. Players need to take these elements into account to optimise its use in battle.

  • Main weaknesses against Ground, Fire, Psychic, and Flying types

  • Useful resistances against Fighting, Grass, Poison, and Bug types

  • Partial immunity to strategies based solely on poisoning

These weaknesses require anticipating opposing moves, particularly Ground attacks, which are very common in competitive play.

Stats and Strategic Potential

Scolipede has a base stat spread oriented towards Speed and physical power. Its Attack is high enough to deal heavy damage, while its Defense remains average. Its HP provides decent durability without making it a defensive wall.

At level 50, with an appropriate nature and well-distributed EVs, Scolipede becomes an excellent physical sweeper. It is often used to gain the upper hand in the early or mid stages of battle thanks to its ability to hit fast and hard.

Moves, TMs, and Key Abilities

Scolipede's movepool is rich and oriented towards direct contact. It naturally learns powerful Poison moves based on its stingers and claws, ideal for dealing constant damage.

  • Poison moves capable of poisoning the opponent

  • Ground and Fighting moves via TMs to broaden coverage

  • Speed and power boosting techniques for an offensive set

TMs allow Scolipede to be adapted to different formats, whether in singles, doubles, or more defensive strategies with Protect.

Evolution, Capture, and Rate

Scolipede is obtained by evolving Whirlipede at a certain level, with no special item required. This evolution marks a clear jump in power and Speed. The catch rate remains standard for a Pokémon at this stage, making it accessible to prepared players.

It is available in several Black and White versions, as well as in certain later generations via transfer or specific events.

Scolipede in the Pokémon Trading Card Game

In the Trading Card Game, Scolipede is represented as an aggressive Pokémon, often focused on poison and progressive damage. Its cards highlight its horns, tail, and venom, with moves capable of dealing additional damage between turns.

These cards are valued for strategic decks based on sustained pressure and managing the opponent's HP, which faithfully reflects its style in the video games.
