General overview of Mothim
Mothim is a Bug and Flying-type Pokémon introduced in the fourth generation. It is known in English as Mothim and carries the Japanese name ガーメイル. Mothim is the male evolution of Burmy and appears as early as level 20, making it a relatively quick and easy evolution to obtain for players early in the adventure.
This Pokémon stands out for its nocturnal moth appearance and its clearly offensive orientation. Unlike Wormadam, which depends on its environment, Mothim has a single form, which simplifies its use and understanding in the main series games as well as in competitive play.
Type, weaknesses, and resistances
Mothim is Bug and Flying-type. This combination gives it several significant weaknesses, notably to Rock, Fire, Electric, and Ice moves. Rock moves are particularly dangerous and can quickly knock Mothim out.
In return, it resists Grass, Fighting, and Bug moves well. These resistances allow it to enter the field against certain specific opponents, particularly at the start of a battle or during strategic rotations.
Base stats and battle potential
Mothim's base stats show a clear orientation toward Special Attack. Its Special Attack is decent, accompanied by reasonable Speed, which allows it to strike before many opponents. On the other hand, its HP and Defense remain low, making it vulnerable to direct hits.
At level 50, Mothim reaches acceptable offensive potential for standard battles, but it remains fragile and requires good anticipation. Its average size and light weight do not directly influence gameplay, but they highlight its aerial and fast profile.
Main moves and available abilities
Mothim can learn a set of moves focused on special damage. Bug moves like Bug Buzz or Silver Wind are central to its set. It can also use Flying moves to benefit from the type bonus and effectively hit certain opponents.
Through TMs and move tutors, Mothim can access useful coverage moves, including Psychic or Poison types depending on the version. This allows it to broaden its offensive range and surprise Pokémon that normally resist its primary type.
Evolution, capture, and availability
Mothim evolves directly from male Burmy at level 20. It is important to note that only male Burmy can evolve into Mothim, which influences catching and breeding. Female Burmy will always evolve into Wormadam.
Mothim's catch rate is standard, making it accessible without major difficulty. It can also be obtained through evolution rather than direct capture, which is often the most reliable method in the main series games.
Mothim in the Pokédex and trading cards
In the Pokédex, Mothim is described as a Pokémon that is mostly active at night, attracted by light and nectar-rich flowers. This description reinforces its identity as a fast and opportunistic Pokémon.
On trading cards, Mothim is generally represented as a fast attacker with moderate costs. Its cards often highlight its Bug and Flying moves, with decent damage output but few defensive abilities, faithfully reflecting its role in the video games.
