General overview of Combee

Combee is a Bug and Flying-type Pokémon introduced in the fourth generation. Its English name is Combee and its Japanese name is ミツハニー. This small Pokémon resembles a set of living honeycombs and plays a very specific role in the Sinnoh ecosystem, particularly around honey collection. Combee is known for its unique gender-based evolution mechanic, which makes it especially interesting for players looking to complete their Pokédex.

In the Pokémon Diamond and Pearl games, Combee appears primarily in honey trees, making its capture dependent on patience and luck. This Pokémon is often sought not for its combat performance, but for its highly coveted evolution potential into Vespiquen.

Type and base characteristics

Combee is a Bug and Flying-type Pokémon. This dual combination grants it interesting resistances to Grass and Fighting types, but also heavy weaknesses to Rock, Fire, and Electric moves. In battle, it remains very fragile and lacks solid defensive stats.

Its weight is approximately 5.5 kg, making it a lightweight Pokémon. Its small size reflects its role as a collector rather than a fighter. Combee's base stats are modest, with very low HP and Defense, limiting its use in competitive battles.

Stats and battle potential

Combee has stats oriented toward Speed and Special Attack, but these remain generally low. In battle, it is rarely used beyond the early levels. Its survival depends mainly on its ability to attack quickly or to support a team in very specific formats.

Strategically, Combee is primarily considered a transitional Pokémon. It provides access to a powerful evolution, but its own battle set remains limited. In Pokémon GO, its max CP is low, making it poorly suited for raids or league battles.

Available moves and abilities

Combee mainly learns Bug and Flying-type moves. Among its most common moves, one finds Bug Bite, Hurricane, and Hidden Power depending on the version. These moves deal modest damage and mainly serve to progress through the adventure early in the game.

It can also learn certain moves via TMs, but its low offensive potential limits the value of investing significant resources in it. The available abilities reinforce its role as a collector rather than a pure fighter.

Evolution and gender peculiarity

Combee evolves into Vespiquen only if it is female and reaches a certain level. This mechanic makes catching a female Combee particularly sought after. Male Combee, which are far more common, cannot evolve, which strongly influences their value in the game.

The female encounter rate is very low, which adds a dimension of luck and patience to the catching process. This characteristic makes Combee an iconic Pokémon for players who enjoy collection-based challenges.

Capture and availability

Combee is mainly found in honey trees as a wild Pokémon. The catch rate depends heavily on the method used and the time of day. It does not appear frequently in standard areas, making it less accessible than other Bug-type Pokémon.

In certain games and events, Combee can also be obtained via Eggs or specific raids. Its Shiny version exists, which attracts collectors looking to complete a rare and distinctive entry in their Pokédex.
