General overview of Elekid

Elekid is a Pokémon of the Electric type belonging to the second generation. Its English name is Elekid and its Japanese name is エレキッド. Designed for players, Elekid serves mainly as the ideal base for breeding and optimizing a future Electric team, since this Pokémon later evolves into Electabuzz and then into Electivire in more recent games. Its presence in the Pokédex makes it a Pokémon appreciated for its speed and its early access to several priority moves related to electricity.

Its round and striped body, recognizable with its black zigzag pattern as well as its two arms resembling electrical plugs, are important for understanding its move logic in the games: Elekid naturally generates electricity through movement. It weighs approximately 23 kg according to the Pokédex versions and often appears in outdoor areas prone to storms or near power plants.

Useful characteristics in the games

In battle, Elekid remains a fragile Pokémon with low HP, but it compensates through its high speed from the very first levels. For players looking to catch Elekid early in a game or in a specific area, they often need to monitor routes where Electric-type Pokémon appear during certain weather conditions. With a moderate catch rate, using a Ball suited to fast Pokémon can make catching easier.

Elekid also benefits from moves like Charge, Quick Attack or Spark, which it learns naturally based on its level. Its Electric type gives it good coverage against Water- and Flying-type Pokémon, making it immediately useful on a team even without evolving. On the other hand, it remains weak against Ground types, which calls for an adapted strategy during important battles.

Evolution and breeding

Elekid evolves into Electabuzz when it reaches a certain level, then possibly into Electivire when traded while holding the Electirizer item in compatible generations. To optimize a future Electabuzz or Electivire, many players use Elekid in breeding thanks to its egg groups and inherited moves (egg moves) that can provide a competitive advantage.

Its IVs and EVs can be optimized early thanks to its quick access to repeated battles against Pokémon that provide useful points. Some players also look for Elekid with a nature favorable to speed or special attack to maximize its evolutionary potential.

Appearances in the games and Pokédex information

Locations and encounters

Depending on the generation, Elekid appears in various areas: on routes near industrial buildings, in dens or sometimes during special events such as mirages in Pokémon Omega Ruby and Alpha Sapphire. In Pokémon Diamond and Pearl, it is obtained through breeding when an Electabuzz holds the Electirizer item.

Number and Pokédex data

Elekid is listed in the Pokédex with a different number depending on the region, but it remains identified as a pure Electric-type Pokémon. Its descriptions often emphasize its ability to generate electricity when it swings its arms. When it is excited or angry, the current increases strongly, which boosts certain moves during battle.

Elekid in the Pokémon card game

In the trading card game, Elekid has several versions across various expansions. It is generally found as a basic card, sometimes with effects related to paralysis or Electric energy management. Its cards often highlight its compact form and raw energy, making it an appreciated piece in collections dedicated to Electric-type Pokémon or baby Pokémon.

Useful moves and player tips

Priority moves like Quick Attack, Electric moves like Thunder Shock or Flash, or moves learned through a move tutor in certain generations, reinforce Elekid early in the game. Players looking for a fast Pokémon to support a team or apply pressure on Water types gain a real advantage by using Elekid before obtaining Pikachu or other Electric-type Pokémon.

With good natures, targeted EV training and preparation for its evolution, Elekid can become the core of an Electric team and provide a significant advantage in the early hours of a Pokémon game.
