General overview of Aron
Aron is a Pokémon of the Steel and Rock type, known by its Japanese name ココドラ. Introduced in the Hoenn region, this Pokémon appears very early in the adventure and forms a solid foundation for players seeking a resilient team right from the first levels. Aron is often encountered at low levels in caves and mountainous areas, making it a strategic capture when preparing for a long evolution line.
Its body is completely covered in an iron shell, granting it excellent physical Defense. Despite its small size, Aron is a heavy Pokémon, with considerable weight relative to its proportions. This characteristic influences certain moves and the damage received in battle.
Stats and battle foundation
Aron's base stats are geared toward Defense and Attack. Its HP remains modest, requiring careful management in battle, especially against special attacks. On the other hand, its high Defense allows it to absorb many physical hits without difficulty.
Aron is often used as a physical wall in the early game. Thanks to its Steel type, it benefits from many resistances, notably against Iron, Rock, and several common neutral attacks. Its Speed is low, which means anticipating enemy hits and favoring powerful moves over fast ones.
Steel and Rock typing
Aron's dual Steel and Rock typing gives it a very distinct defensive identity. It resists a large number of types, but remains vulnerable to Ground, Fighting, and certain special attacks. This combination makes it an excellent choice against physical opponents, but a risky one against Pokémon focused on special damage.
In battle, the Steel type is particularly valued for its stability and its ability to absorb hits. The Rock type adds extra raw power, notably through attacks like Rock Slide or Rock Tomb, which are very useful in the early and mid-game.
Moves and useful abilities
Aron learns several moves based on raw strength. Steel- and Rock-type attacks are at the core of its gameplay. Metal Claw, Body Slam, or Tackle are often used to deal consistent damage. Later on, it can access heavier hits like Double-Edge or Rock Slide.
Through HMs and TMs, Aron can also learn utility moves, reinforcing its defensive role. Certain abilities allow it to raise its Defense or surprise the enemy with decent damage despite its low Speed.
Evolution and progression
Aron evolves at a certain level into Lairon, and then into Aggron, an extremely powerful and heavy final evolution. This evolution line is greatly appreciated for its linear and effective progression. Each evolution considerably improves HP, Attack, and Defense, further reinforcing its role as a cornerstone of any team.
By correctly investing EVs in Defense and Attack, Aron becomes an ideal foundation for building a Pokémon capable of holding its own in long battles and raids in certain versions of the game.
Information from the Pokédex
According to the Pokédex, Aron feeds mainly on iron and ores it finds in caves and mountains. Its body is strengthened over time by absorbing these materials, which explains its natural armor. It is often spotted near railway tracks or in areas rich in metal.
Its modest size contrasts with its sturdiness. Despite its compact appearance, Aron is capable of charging its enemies with impressive force, using its shell as both a defensive and offensive weapon at the same time.
