Detailed information
General overview of Aggron
Aggron is a Steel-type Pokémon belonging to the third generation. Its Japanese name is ボスゴドラ. It represents the final evolution of Aron and then Lairon, reached at a certain level. Aggron is known for its massive silhouette, its iron-clad body, and its role as an offensive tank in many battle formats. In the Pokédex, it is listed as a territorial Pokémon that fiercely guards its territory against any intrusion.
Pokédex information and general data
Aggron holds number 306 in the national Pokédex. It stands approximately 2.1 meters tall and boasts an impressive weight of over 360 kg, making it one of the heaviest Steel-type Pokémon. These characteristics directly influence certain weight-based moves and physical attacks. Introduced in Pokémon Ruby and Pokémon Sapphire, it is also present in many later versions such as White, Black, and their derivatives.
Its Steel type grants it great natural resistance to many types, but it remains vulnerable to Fire-, Fighting-, and Ground-type attacks. On the other hand, it takes very little damage from Ice-, Dragon-, Normal-, and Flying-type moves.
Base stats and EVs
Aggron's stats are clearly geared toward Defense and physical Attack. It has a high base stat total, with Defense among the highest of its generation. Its HP is decent without being exceptional, but combined with its iron armor, it becomes very difficult to knock out quickly.
In terms of EVs, Aggron is often played with maximum investment in Defense and HP for strategic battles. Offensively, certain sets prioritize Attack in order to take advantage of its great raw power.
Moves and useful abilities in battle
Aggron has a wide range of Steel- and Rock-type moves, as well as highly interesting coverage options. Among its most frequently used attacks, you will find Iron Head, Stone Edge, Earthquake, and Fire Punch to surprise opponents weak to Fire or Ice.
Thanks to TMs and move tutors, it can learn varied moves such as Dragon Tail to trouble Dragon-type opponents, Poison Jab, or Ice Beam depending on the generation. This diversity allows it to adapt to different battle formats and many natures.
Evolutions and special forms
Aggron is the final evolution of Aron and Lairon. In certain versions, it can access a Mega Evolution called Mega Aggron, which removes its dual typing to make it purely Steel. This form drastically increases its Defense and modifies its strategic approach in battle.
This Mega Evolution is greatly valued in competitive formats for its ability to wall many offensive Pokémon.
Aggron in Pokémon cards
Aggron has several Pokémon cards, including rare, ex, and ultra versions. Aggron Pokémon cards often highlight its high Defense and its heavy Iron- and Rock-based attacks. Certain cards are highly sought after by collectors, particularly those from expansions tied to Ruby and Sapphire or subsequent generations.
On an Aggron Pokémon card, you will generally find attacks dealing heavy damage but requiring a high energy cost, perfectly reflecting its slow but powerful style.
