General overview of Mawile

Mawile is a Pokémon of the Steel and Fairy type introduced in the Hoenn region. Its French name is Mysdibule and its Japanese name is クチート. This Pokémon stands out for its unusual head, which features an enormous jaw at the back of its skull that is often mistaken for a face. Mawile uses this deceptive appearance to trap every enemy in battle, making it a greatly appreciated Pokémon for its defensive and strategic mechanics.

In the Pokédex, Mawile is known for its steel fangs capable of crushing iron and rock. Its body is relatively small, but its jaw possesses impressive strength. Its weight remains moderate, expressed in kg, making it easy to include in a team without any Speed penalty related to size. Mawile is often used as a defensive wall or as a pivot thanks to its natural resistances.

Typing, resistances, and weaknesses

The dual Steel and Fairy typing gives Mawile many important resistances in battle. It effectively resists Normal-, Grass-, Psychic-, Flying-, Rock-, Ice-, Dark-, and Fairy-type attacks. These resistances allow it to absorb repeated hits and hold its ground against many opponents.

On the other hand, Mawile has notable weaknesses to Fire- and Ground-type attacks. Flame or ground-shaking attacks can quickly reduce its HP if its Defense is not properly leveraged. It is therefore essential to plan a pivot or a partner capable of covering these weaknesses.

Base stats and EVs

Mawile's base stats are geared toward Defense and physical Attack. Its Attack is decent, especially when boosted by certain abilities, while its Speed remains low. Its Defense and Special Defense allow it to hold up against many different attack types.

  • Adequate HP for a defensive role

  • Exploitable Attack with EV investment

  • Solid Defense to absorb physical hits

  • Low Speed requiring strategic anticipation

In terms of EVs, Mawile is often optimized with investment in HP and Defense or Attack depending on the chosen nature. A Bold or Careful nature is frequently used to maximize its effectiveness.

Moves, TMs, and key abilities

Mawile has a wide range of moves accessible by level-up, TM, and sometimes HM. It can learn Steel-, Fairy-, Dark-, and Fighting-type moves. Among its most commonly used attacks, you will find Bite, Iron Head, Fire Punch, Ice Punch, and Taunt to disrupt the opponent.

Moves such as Swords Dance allow it to greatly boost its offensive power, while Fake Tears is useful for lowering the opponent's Defense. Mawile can thus shift from a defensive role into an unpredictable offensive threat.

Battle usage and strategic information

In battle, Mawile excels in tactical confrontations. Thanks to its intimidating jaw and its resistances, it often forces the opponent to switch Pokémon. It is particularly effective against Dragon-, Dark-, and Ice-type opponents. Its strategy profile highlights its versatility and its ability to surprise with variable-power moves.

Although not very fast, Mawile remains an excellent choice for players looking for a reliable Pokémon capable of controlling the pace of battle and intelligently exploiting its moves and base stats.
