Overview of Umbreon

Umbreon is a Dark-type Pokémon that evolves from Eevee when it reaches a high friendship level and then evolves during the night. Known by the English name Umbreon and the Japanese name ブラッキー, it is one of the most appreciated evolutions thanks to its dark aesthetic and defensive performance. In the Pokédex, Umbreon is often presented as a calm and observant Pokémon that uses the night and shadows to surprise its enemies. Its glowing yellow rings shine in the darkness, a signal used in games to indicate rising tension or an imminent attack.

This Pokémon is highly sought after by trainers for its unique strategic profile and its defensive role on many teams. In games, it is rare to obtain since friendship must be raised correctly before the moment of evolution. Players particularly appreciate its exceptional resilience and its ability to absorb damage while gradually wearing down the opponent.

Type, Evolution and Base Characteristics

Umbreon belongs exclusively to the Dark type. This trait gives it excellent resistance to Ghost and Dark moves while allowing it to counter the Psychic type effectively through moves like Dark Pulse or Snarl. Evolution occurs only at night, making it a Pokémon tied to themes of moonlight, shadow and absence of light.

Its base stats make it an impressive defensive wall. Its Defense and Special Defense are high and allow it to withstand powerful hits, even from higher-level opponents. In terms of HP and overall power, Umbreon is not designed to deal massive damage, but to control the pace of battle. Players generally invest EVs toward Defense or Special Defense to optimize its longevity.

Moves, Useful Attacks and Strategic Role

Umbreon has moves well-suited to its combat style. Dark Pulse remains its most common Dark-type move, with solid accuracy and consistent damage. Snarl allows it to lower the opponent's Special Attack, further reinforcing its defensive role. In the main games, it also gains support moves like Moonlight, Rest or Tackle to hold out for a long time.

Its strategic role rests on its ability to tank hits, stall and wear down the opponent. Thanks to its access to recovery moves, Umbreon is often positioned as a defensive pivot. It can also apply constant pressure in extended battles, making it an essential Pokémon for endurance-focused teams.

Umbreon in Pokémon GO

In Pokémon GO, Umbreon is a highly appreciated choice in battle leagues thanks to its enormous bulk and low energy cost for certain moves. Its Defense and HP values make it one of the best Dark-type Pokémon for PvP. Once evolved through the friendship system with Eevee, it reaches a decent max CP for lower leagues. Dark Pulse and Last Resort are among its best sets.

Catching Umbreon in the wild is impossible; it always requires going through Eevee. The encounter rate of Eevee therefore matters for building up a candy stockpile to evolve multiple copies.

Umbreon Pokémon Cards

Umbreon Pokémon cards rank among the most sought-after in the TCG, particularly Umbreon EX, Umbreon V and Umbreon VMAX versions. Certain editions have become very rare and can reach high prices depending on the release date, condition, set and presence of alternative artworks. Umbreon Pokémon cards are often sold out in specialized stores due to the Pokémon's popularity.

Card players appreciate Umbreon for its Dark-oriented abilities, often associated with moves using shadow, night effects or sabotage. Ultra-rare versions are highly prized by collectors and add significant value to any set.
