Detailed information

Overview of Murkrow

Murkrow is a Pokémon from the second generation, originating from the Johto region. Its English name is Murkrow and its Japanese name is Yamikarasu, a direct reference to darkness and nocturnal crows. This Dark and Flying-type Pokémon is known for its cunning behavior and its role as a fast attacker in strategic battles.

In the main games, Murkrow is often sought for its evolution into Honchkrow, which considerably improves its offensive stats. Despite its small size, Murkrow has interesting potential thanks to its high Speed and access to damage-dealing and disruption moves.

Stats and Battle Profile

Murkrow's base stats are clearly oriented toward Attack and Speed, at the expense of Defense and HP. Its low total HP and modest defenses make it fragile against direct hits, but its ability to strike first largely compensates for this weakness.

In battle, Murkrow is used as a fast attacker or offensive support. It can disrupt the opposing team with Dark-type moves while dealing decent damage. Its Flying type allows it to avoid certain Ground moves, slightly improving its survival against some opponents.

Type and Weaknesses

Murkrow has a dual Dark and Flying typing. This type combination gives it interesting resistances against Psychic and Ghost moves, making it a natural counter to those Pokémon categories. However, it remains very vulnerable to Ice, Rock, Electric and Fairy moves.

When facing an unprepared opponent, Murkrow can quickly gain the upper hand. However, it requires good anticipation since a super-effective hit can knock it out very quickly.

Key Moves and Abilities

Murkrow has a wide selection of damage-dealing and disruption moves. Among its most commonly used moves, you will find Dark Pulse to exploit its Dark type, Peck to take advantage of its Flying type, and moves like Drill Peck to deal consistent damage.

Through TMs, Murkrow can learn a variety of moves that strengthen its battle role, especially to surprise certain natural counters. Priority moves are particularly useful for taking advantage of its high Speed.

Evolution and Strategic Value

Murkrow evolves into Honchkrow when exposed to a Dusk Stone. This evolution is immediate and completely transforms its strategic potential. Honchkrow becomes much more powerful, with a significantly higher Attack and a greater impact in competitive play.

For players building a Dark team or an offensively oriented squad, Murkrow is an interesting base to evolve as quickly as possible. Its evolution also improves its overall resilience, making it more viable in the long run.

Murkrow in Games and Cards

In the Pokédex, Murkrow is often described as a Pokémon linked to darkness, attracted to shiny objects and known for causing confusion. In recent games set in Paldea, it remains available in certain specific areas, often at night.

On the card side, Murkrow appears regularly in extensions focused on Dark types. Murkrow cards are generally affordable and appreciated by collectors for their dark design and their connection to Team Rocket in certain editions. They remain interesting for completing a collection or reinforcing a Dark-oriented deck.
