General overview of Tynamo
Tynamo is an Electric-type Pokémon introduced in the fifth generation. Its French name is Anchwatt and its Japanese name is シビシラス. This small Pokémon, inspired by a lamprey, is known for its apparent simplicity as well as for its strategic potential once fully evolved. Tynamo is number 602 in the Pokédex and is found mainly in the Unova region, particularly in underground aquatic areas.
Despite its fragile appearance, Tynamo is an essential foundation in the evolutionary line leading to Eelektross. For players of Pokémon Black and White, it represents an interesting long-term investment, especially for those looking for a pure Electric type with no Grass or Ice weaknesses.
Type and general characteristics
Tynamo is a pure Electric-type Pokémon. This trait gives it only one major weakness against Ground-type attacks, which is both an advantage and a risk depending on the battle. It is immune to Electric-type moves, allowing it to handle certain specific matchups.
Its base stats are very low, particularly in HP, Attack, and Defense. Tynamo is clearly designed as a transitional Pokémon whose true value emerges after evolution. Its lack of complex abilities makes it easy to understand for beginner players.
Stats and EVs
Tynamo's stats reflect its status as a base form. Its HP is low, as is its Defense, making it vulnerable to physical attacks. However, its decent Speed sometimes allows it to attack first against other low-level wild Pokémon.
Low HP, not suited to prolonged battles
Limited offensive stats
Virtually no EV value in its current form
From a strategic standpoint, Tynamo is not used for EV optimization. Players prefer to evolve it quickly in order to distribute EVs onto Eelektrik and then Eelektross, which is far more powerful.
Moves and learnset
Tynamo has a very restricted movepool. It primarily learns low-power Electric-type moves. Thunder Shock and Spark are among the most common moves at low levels. It does not have access to useful offensive TMs or HMs before evolving.
Tackle as a starting move
Thunder Shock to deal quick damage
Little diversity before evolution
This limitation clearly encourages players to speed up its evolution rather than trying to keep it in battle for long.
Evolution and strategic value
Tynamo evolves into Eelektrik starting at level 39, and then into Eelektross via the use of a Thunder Stone. This double evolution completely transforms its role in battle. Eelektross then becomes a very powerful Pokémon, with no weakness other than the Ground type and excellent offensive stats.
For players of Pokémon Black, White, Black 2, and White 2, this line is particularly appreciated both in the main adventure and in occasional competitive battles.
Tynamo in the Pokémon TCG
In the Trading Card Game, Tynamo appears as a low-HP Basic card. It is mainly used as a mandatory stepping stone toward more powerful cards representing Eelektrik or Eelektross. Its market value remains low, but certain cards are sought after for their artwork or their inclusion in specific sets.
Collectors are most interested in versions from the Black and White era, as well as alternative editions found in certain Scarlet and Violet series.
Encounters and wild areas
Tynamo is generally found in enclosed aquatic areas such as caves or ocean floors, rarely appearing on the surface. This relative rarity makes it a Pokémon that can be difficult to catch without preparation. It often appears at modest levels, requiring significant training before it can evolve.
For players looking to complete their Pokédex, Tynamo remains a necessary step to obtain Eelektross and complete the Unova Electric line.
