General overview of Skiploom
Skiploom is a Pokémon of the Grass and Flying type introduced in the Johto generation. It is known as Skiploom in English and ハネッコ in Japanese. Skiploom represents the intermediate evolution of a line widely used in the early and mid-game, particularly for its Speed and support capabilities in battle.
This Pokémon constantly floats in the air thanks to its fully bloomed flower, which is sensitive to temperature and sunlight. The warmer and brighter the environment, the more active Skiploom becomes. This information is important for understanding its behavior in battle and its strategic interest on a Grass-type team.
Type and main characteristics
Skiploom has the dual Grass and Flying type, which gives it interesting resistances against Ground, Water, and Grass-type moves, but also notable weaknesses against Fire, Ice, Poison, and Flying-type moves. Its profile is clearly oriented toward Speed rather than Defense.
Its base statistics remain modest in Attack and Defense, but its high Speed often allows it to act first. At an equivalent level, particularly around level 20 or level 25, Skiploom can easily place status moves before the opponent.
Evolution and obtaining
Skiploom is the direct evolution of Hoppip from level 18. It then evolves into Jumpluff when it reaches level 27. This rapid evolution allows players to access its final form fairly early, which is very popular in the Johto generations and their remakes.
Skiploom can be encountered in the wild in certain grassy areas or via evolution. Its catch rate is relatively decent, making it easy to add to the team without requiring a large number of Poké Balls.
Useful moves and abilities
Skiploom's move set is mainly focused on support and harassment. It quickly learns moves like Sleep Powder, Stun Spore, or Leech Seed, which are very effective for controlling the pace of battle. These moves are often preferred over raw damage moves.
As a Grass type, it can also use Razor Leaf or Mega Drain to deal damage while recovering HP. As a Flying type, moves like Gust remain situational but useful against certain Fighting or Bug types.
Battle usage and strategy
Skiploom is not designed to deal high DPS, but to weaken the opponent over time. Thanks to its Speed, it is ideal for placing status effects on the very first turn, especially in solo battles or on balanced teams.
At level 40 or level 50, its limitations become more visible against more robust Pokémon, but it retains a strategic interest in certain control-oriented sets. On a team, it works well alongside Fire or Water Pokémon capable of covering its weaknesses.
Skiploom in cards and spin-off games
In the Pokémon card game, Skiploom appears regularly as an intermediate card, often focused on effects related to sleep or confusion. These cards are rarely centerpieces but remain useful in Grass-themed decks.
In Pokémon GO, Skiploom is primarily sought after to complete the evolution toward Jumpluff. Its max CP remains limited, making it less present in raids, but interesting for completionist players and events related to Johto.
Additional information and technical sheet
Skiploom is a medium-sized, lightweight Pokémon recognizable by its pink flower and green body. It is often depicted floating above the ground, carried by the wind. Its nature strongly influences its effectiveness, particularly when increasing its Speed or HP.
This Skiploom profile highlights a strategic, accessible, and very useful Pokémon in the early generations, appreciated for its versatility and support role rather than for its raw power.
