Overview of Sandile

Sandile is a Pokémon of the Ground and Dark type introduced in the fifth generation. Its Japanese name is メグロコ. This small crocodile Pokémon is recognisable by its large eyes concealed behind a dark membrane, designed to protect it from the desert sand. Sandile is primarily encountered in arid and desert areas, which strongly influences its battle style and abilities.

In the Pokédex, Sandile is described as a Pokémon that lives in groups, often hidden under the sand to surprise its opponents. For players, it represents an excellent choice early in progression thanks to its dual type, which is very interesting offensively, and to a rapid evolution that greatly improves its stats.

Type, Strengths, and Weaknesses

Sandile has the dual Ground and Dark type. This combination makes it immune to Electric and Psychic type moves, which is very useful in many battles. On the other hand, it remains weak to Water, Grass, Ice, Fighting, Bug, and Fairy moves.

In competitive play, its Dark type gives it access to very effective moves against Psychic and Ghost Pokémon, while the Ground type allows it to handle Fire, Rock, and Steel types effectively. This versatility makes Sandile interesting from the very first levels.

Base Stats and EVs

Sandile's base stats are balanced for an initial-stage Pokémon. It has decent HP, an already solid physical Attack, and average Speed. Its Defense and Special Defense remain low, requiring an offensive approach.

  • Decent HP for taking a few hits

  • Physical Attack as priority for damage

  • Average Speed suited for early-game battles

  • Weak defenses requiring anticipation of opposing moves

EVs are generally invested in Attack and Speed in order to maximise its offensive potential. This distribution allows Sandile to take advantage of its Ground and Dark type moves before being put in difficulty.

Main Moves and Key Abilities

Sandile naturally learns several effective physical moves as it levels up. Bite and Crunch are reliable Dark moves, ideal for making use of its base Attack. On the Ground side, Bulldoze and later Earthquake quickly become major options once they are available.

It can also learn utility moves such as Roar, allowing it to disrupt opposing strategies, as well as moves via TMs and HMs that further broaden its set. In the story mode, these moves are more than sufficient to progress comfortably.

Evolution and In-Game Value

Sandile evolves at a certain level into Krokorok, then reaches its final form later, gaining a clear boost in power and stats. This progressive evolution makes it an excellent long-term investment for players seeking a reliable Ground Pokémon.

Its evolution considerably improves its Attack, HP, and battlefield presence, while retaining the same type. For competitive players and those simply exploring the Pokédex alike, Sandile remains a solid and coherent base.

Sandile in Cards and Other Games

In the Trading Card Game, Sandile regularly appears as a basic card focused on fast, low-energy attacks. It is appreciated in Dark or Ground type decks, notably for its low setup cost.

In games such as Pokémon GO or Scarlet and Violet, Sandile retains a similar role, with smooth progression and abilities well-suited to battles against Gym Leaders and wild encounters.
