Detailed information
Overview of Panpour
Panpour is a Water-type Pokémon introduced in the Unova region. Its Japanese name is ヒヤップ. This small aquatic monkey is designed as a starter-level Pokémon intended to help players from the very beginning of their adventure, particularly in the early Gyms. Panpour is often obtained through a gift or a scripted encounter depending on the version, making it easily accessible.
Thanks to its Water type, Panpour offers a direct advantage against Fire and Ground-type Pokémon encountered early in the game. Its simple design and educational role make it a frequent choice for beginner teams, even though its competitive potential remains limited without evolving.
Type, role, and in-game utility
Type and weaknesses
Panpour is exclusively Water type. This type allows it to resist Fire, Steel, and Ice attacks, but it remains vulnerable to Grass and Electric attacks. These weaknesses must be taken into account in battles against certain trainers or wild Pokémon.
In a balanced team, Panpour acts as an offensive support Pokémon in the early game, capable of dealing decent damage while taking hits reasonably well.
Base stats
Panpour's base stats are modest. Its HP, Attack, and Defense are balanced but do not excel in any area. Its decent Speed often lets it attack first against other base-stage Pokémon. These values clearly show it is designed to evolve quickly rather than stay in this form for long.
Evolution and progression
Panpour's evolution
Panpour evolves into Simipour when exposed to a Water Stone. This evolution is not tied to level, which allows players to choose the ideal moment based on the moves already learned. It is often recommended to wait until Panpour has learned certain key moves before triggering the evolution.
This mechanic provides genuine strategic freedom and allows the Pokémon's progression to be optimized according to the chosen playstyle.
Levels and move learning
Panpour primarily learns Water-type moves by leveling up. From the very first levels, it can use reliable moves to sweep through fights against Fire or Rock-type Pokémon. Later, it can learn utility moves before evolving, which increases its temporary value.
Moves and useful attacks
Main moves
Panpour can learn moves such as Water Gun, Water Pulse, or Crunch depending on progression and available TMs. These moves provide decent coverage, particularly against Ghost and Ground types. Access to Surf via HM also makes it a practical Pokémon for exploration.
Although its power remains limited, its moves are reliable and easy to use for a beginner player.
Compatible TMs and HMs
Surf for exploration and battle
Ice Beam for offensive coverage
Rock Slide via TM depending on the version
Return for a stable neutral attack
Panpour in the Pokémon Trading Card Game
Cards and collectible interest
Panpour cards typically depict a Basic Pokémon with low HP. They are often used as introductory cards in expansions tied to Unova. Their financial value remains low, but they are appreciated by collectors looking to complete full sets.
Some illustrations highlight its playful and aquatic nature, which adds to its visual appeal even for common cards.
Deck usage
In the Trading Card Game, Panpour serves primarily as a base to evolve into Simipour. It is almost never used as a main attacker, but its low setup cost makes it useful in decks focused on fast evolution.
Availability and how to obtain
In-game capture and acquisition
Depending on the Black and White versions, Panpour is obtained from a key character in the story if the player's starter choice creates a type imbalance. This approach guarantees the player quick access to a Water-type Pokémon without relying on random encounters.
It can also be obtained through trading or breeding, making it easy to add to a team right from the start.
Eggs and breeding
Panpour belongs to the Field egg group, which allows it to breed easily with other compatible Pokémon. This provides the opportunity to obtain individuals with better IVs to optimize a future evolution.
