Detailed information

General overview of Mudkip

Mudkip is a Water-type Pokémon introduced in the third generation. It is known as Mudkip in English and ミズゴロウ in Japanese. Mudkip is one of the starter Pokémon from the Hoenn region, making it a very popular strategic choice for players from the first levels of the game.

Mudkip stands out for its compact appearance, its wide head and its large side fins. Its body is adapted to both ground combat and swimming, allowing it to be effective in many situations. Thanks to its Water type, it has good resistance to Fire moves, a key advantage right from the start of the adventure.

Stats and battle potential

Mudkip's base stats are balanced, with decent Defense and solid HP for a starter Pokémon. Its Attack is not exceptional, but sufficient to progress comfortably until its evolution. IVs can strongly influence its effectiveness, especially for players focused on optimization or Pokémon GO.

Mudkip is not a fragile Pokémon. Its Defense allows it to absorb several attacks, even from Ground or Fire-type opponents. In battle, it excels especially in prolonged confrontations where its sturdiness makes the difference.

Available moves and abilities

Mudkip learns Water-type moves such as Water Gun and Tackle very early on. These moves are ideal for exploiting its base power and dominating early battles. As it levels up, it can access Ground-type moves via TMs, which considerably broadens its tactical options.

In Pokémon GO, Mudkip has effective fast and charged moves, making it interesting for gym battles and certain low-level raids. Its versatility makes it a good choice for both beginner and experienced players.

Evolution and strategic interest

Mudkip evolves into Marshtomp at a certain level, then into Swampert. This evolution is particularly sought after as Swampert gains the dual Water and Ground type, which completely changes its defensive and offensive profile. This evolutionary line is considered one of the strongest in Hoenn.

Thanks to this evolution, Mudkip becomes a worthwhile long-term investment. Even if its size is relatively small and its weight moderate at its base stage, its final potential is very high once evolved.

Capture, size and Pokédex data

In the Pokédex, Mudkip is classified as the Mud Fish Pokémon. Its size is modest, but its stocky body gives an impression of solidity. Its weight remains reasonable, consistent with its role as an agile Pokémon capable of moving quickly both in water and on land.

Mudkip's catch rate is high compared to other species, especially when obtained as a starter Pokémon. In Ruby and Sapphire, it is often chosen for its ease of use and immediate effectiveness.

Mudkip in cards and recent games

Mudkip is regularly featured in Pokémon cards, often as basic cards ideal for Water decks. Its popularity as a starter Pokémon ensures a constant presence across expansions. Some editions highlight its Defense and its base moves.

In modern games and Pokémon GO, Mudkip remains an appreciated Pokémon for its overall balance, its ease of evolution and its great usefulness from the first levels. It represents an excellent starting choice for building a solid and cohesive team.
