General overview of Magnezone
Magnezone, known as Magnezone in English and ジバコイル in Japanese, is an Electric and Steel type Pokémon. This final evolution of Magneton is one of the most feared Pokémon for leveraging a magnetic field to boost its power. In the Pokédex, Magnezone is described as a creature whose magnets generate an extraordinarily stable magnetic field that sometimes interferes with nearby electronics. For players, this form is primarily sought after for its very solid Special Attack, Defense, and terrain-control capabilities.
Evolving Magneton into Magnezone
Magnezone is the direct evolution of Magneton. In the main series games, this evolution occurs when Magneton gains a level in a location with a special magnetic field. In some more recent generations, the evolution has been simplified with a Thunder Stone. This evolution brings a major jump in Defense, HP, and especially Special stats, which completely changes its role in a strategic team.
Type, strengths, and weaknesses
Magnezone is an Electric and Steel type Pokémon. This combination grants it numerous essential resistances in battle, particularly against Steel, Flying, and Normal type attacks. However, it remains vulnerable to Ground type moves, which can deal massive damage in a single hit. Players take advantage of its anti-Steel role through its magnets, which can sometimes trap opposing Pokémon of the Steel type. In competitive play, this role is crucial for managing the Steel threats found in nearly every generation.
Stats and EV distribution
Magnezone has stats oriented toward Defense and Special power. Its HP is reasonable, but it is primarily its Defense and Special Attack that make it an effective wall. Generally, players distribute EVs into Defense or Special Attack depending on the intended role. A standard offensive set maximizes power to take advantage of moves like Flash Cannon, Volt Switch, or Charge Beam. A more defensive set can rely on Light Screen to support the team.
Best moves and useful abilities
In terms of moves, Magnezone has a good selection covering several situations. Its most commonly used moves include:
Spark or Charge for early-game physical damage
Electro Ball, Flash Cannon, or Explosion for an offensive role
Volt Switch for continuous pivoting
Magnet Rise to temporarily neutralize Ground type attacks
Mirror Shot to reflect special damage
Light Screen for a more defensive role
Its high power and Steel typing also allow it to withstand many hits without faltering.
Pokédex information, size, weight, and details
In the Pokédex, Magnezone is described as a Pokémon controlled by an internal magnetic field. Its metallic shell and three magnet-propelled units emit various waves. It is genderless, like Magneton, and therefore cannot show any differences between male and female. Its number varies across generations but continues directly from its evolutionary line. In Scarlet and Violet, Magnezone retains the same strategic role and gains access to new Electric and Steel moves.
Magnezone in the Pokémon card game
Magnezone has appeared in many Pokémon card sets, including popular editions such as EX, Lost Origin, and Sun and Moon. Certain cards like the Magnezone VSTAR are highly appreciated for their mechanics centered around the magnetic field and continuous damage output. Recent products sometimes feature a Magnezone card in ultra or special holographic versions with a powerful Electric beam or ray attack.
Strategic tips for using it
Magnezone is ideal for catching Steel type opponents off guard through its trapping capabilities. Its role depends largely on your team composition. An offensive set will maximize power with Thunder, Flash Cannon, and Volt Switch. A more defensive set relies on Light Screen, Thunder Wave, and Mirror Shot. Its lack of Speed is compensated by its very solid Defense and raw power. However, be cautious of Ground type attacks, which can knock it out in a single hit if Magnet Rise is not active.
