Overview of Lunala
Lunala is a Legendary Pokémon introduced in the seventh generation, first appearing in Pokémon Sun and Pokémon Moon. Its English name is Lunala and its Japanese name is ルナアーラ. It represents the lunar star and stands as the direct counterpart to Sun, forming a mythical duo with Solgaleo. This Pokémon is immediately recognizable thanks to its wide wingspan and crescent moon-shaped wings.
Lunala is a Ghost and Psychic-type Pokémon, a rare combination that grants it interesting resistances but also notable weaknesses in strategic battle. Its primary role is oriented toward special offense and controlling the pace of battle, making it a powerful choice for competitive players and solo content fans alike.
Stats and Battle Potential
Lunala's stats are typical of a high-ranking Legendary Pokémon. It has a very high base stat total, with particularly impressive Special Attack and Special Defense. Its HP is solid, allowing it to take several hits before going down, especially when properly supported.
Its decent Speed allows it to act before many opponents, though it is not among the fastest. On the other hand, its physical Attack remains low and should be avoided when choosing moves. Lunala is therefore optimized to deal heavy special damage, often in a single hit, which perfectly matches its lunar and cosmic theme.
Ability and Lunar Mechanic
Lunala's signature Ability is Shadow Shield. This Ability greatly reduces the damage taken from the first hit received when its HP is at maximum. This mechanic gives Lunala an excellent entry into battle, allowing it to land a powerful move or reposition without being immediately knocked out.
This Ability reinforces its status as a strategic Legendary Pokémon, particularly valued in competitive battles and advanced-format play.
Key Moves and Abilities
Lunala has a wide selection of moves oriented toward Ghost and Psychic types. Its signature move, Moongeist Beam, is one of the most formidable in the game, combining high power with excellent accuracy. This move also ignores certain protections, making it very difficult to counter.
It can also learn Psychic, Shadow Ball, Psyshock, and various elemental coverage moves via TM, allowing it to adapt to many opposing types. In battle, Lunala is capable of knocking out an opponent in a single hit if the right conditions are met.
Usage in the Games and Pokémon GO
In the main series games, Lunala is obtained at a key moment in the adventure and plays a central role in the story tied to Sun and Moon. It does not evolve further and has an Ultra form when it fuses with Necrozma, increasing its power and stats even further.
In Pokémon GO, Lunala is a highly anticipated Pokémon. When available, it quickly becomes a top priority for raids and league battles thanks to its high damage output and unique play style. Its max CP and fast moves make it a formidable option against many opponents.
Pokémon Cards and Collection
Lunala has several Pokémon cards highly sought after by collectors, notably Lunala GX versions and Lunala Pokémon cards GX. These cards stand out with spectacular artwork showcasing its lunar light and cosmic aura.
The values of these cards vary depending on the set, condition, and rarity. Some editions from ultra or special series reach high prices, especially when graded. Lunala thus remains a Pokémon appreciated both for play and for collecting.
