Overview of Nihilego

Nihilego is an Ultra Beast Pokémon introduced in the seventh generation. Its English name is Nihilego and its Japanese name is ウツロイド. This Pokémon stands out immediately for its unusual appearance and its very specific role in competitive battle. Nihilego belongs to the Rock and Poison type, a rare combination that strongly influences its strengths, weaknesses, and strategic uses. It is primarily sought after by players for its high defensive stats and its offensive potential based on powerful Poison moves.

In the main series games as well as in Pokémon GO, Nihilego is classed as a high-level Pokémon, often reserved for advanced battles, raids, or well-built competitive teams. Its Special Defense is particularly high, making it an excellent pivot against many special attacks.

Type and Base Stats

Nihilego is a Rock and Poison dual-type Pokémon. This typing provides excellent resistance against Fire, Flying, Normal, and Poison moves, but leaves it weak to Ground, Water, Psychic, and Steel attacks. These weaknesses must be anticipated when building a team.

Its base stats are very skewed. Its Special Defense reaches an extremely high level, making it difficult to eliminate with special attacks. Its Special Attack is also very strong, allowing Nihilego to deal significant damage with the right moves. On the other hand, its HP and physical Defense are weaker, requiring careful management when facing powerful physical attackers.

Moves and Battle Usage

Nihilego's moves are oriented around Poison and Rock types. Among its best offensive options, one can find moves such as Acid, Acid Spray, and Rock-type moves covering a wide range of opponents. These moves take full advantage of its high Special Attack.

In strategic battle, Nihilego is often used as a special wall or a special attacker capable of surprising opponents. Thanks to its Beast Boost Ability, it can increase its stats after knocking out an opponent, enhancing its potential in the late game. When used well, it can turn a situation around against poorly prepared teams.

Nihilego in Pokémon GO

In Pokémon GO, Nihilego appears primarily during specific raids tied to Ultra Beasts. Its max CP is high, making it a demanding raid boss. Players should prioritize Ground, Psychic, or Steel moves to exploit its weaknesses and overcome its high Special Defense.

Once caught, Nihilego can be used in certain battle formats, particularly to surprise opponents with its Poison moves. Its effectiveness depends heavily on its level and fast moves, sometimes requiring several attempts or the use of TMs to optimize it.

Pokémon Cards and Collector Interest

Nihilego also exists as a Pokémon card, notably in rare or GX forms depending on the expansion. These cards are sought after for their distinctive design and their direct connection to the Ultra Beast universe. Some versions may command high demand on the collectors' market.

For collectors and players alike, Nihilego remains a Pokémon in a class of its own — immediately recognizable and appreciated for its originality, its defensive power, and its unique role in high-level battles.
