Overview of Solgaleo
Solgaleo is a Legendary Pokémon introduced in the seventh generation, in Pokémon Sun and Moon. Its English name is Solgaleo and its Japanese name is ソルガレオ. It embodies the solar star and plays a central role in the story of Pokémon Sun, representing light, power, and the dominance of day.
Solgaleo is a Psychic and Steel-type Pokémon, a rare and extremely effective combination in battle. This dual typing grants it excellent resistances, particularly against Normal, Grass, Ice, Dragon, Steel, and Psychic moves. Thanks to its massive body, imposing head, and luminous mane, Solgaleo is immediately recognizable among Legendary Pokémon.
General Information and Form
Solgaleo is a genderless Pokémon and cannot be obtained through standard breeding. It evolves from Cosmog, which becomes Cosmoem, then Solgaleo exclusively in Pokémon Sun or Sun and Moon. This story-driven evolution is tied to the game's main narrative.
Its base form is the only one available, but it can fuse with Necrozma to obtain an even more powerful form. This fusion modifies its play style and moves, making it highly sought after by competitive players.
Size, Weight, and Appearance
Solgaleo is a large and massive Pokémon. Its height exceeds 3 meters and its weight surpasses 200 kg. Its body is covered in metallic plates, with a head shaped like a stylized sun and imposing claws capable of piercing steel.
Stats and Level
Solgaleo has very high base stats, worthy of a major Legendary. Its Attack and Defense are particularly impressive, allowing it to excel both as an attacker and in prolonged battles. At level 50 or level 100, it remains a constant threat.
In Pokémon GO, its max CP is very high, making it a priority target for Legendary raids. It is generally available during special events or limited raid rotations.
Moves and Abilities
Solgaleo has a wide selection of powerful moves. Its signature move is Sunsteel Strike, a devastating Steel-type move that benefits from the type bonus. It can also learn very powerful Psychic moves, ideal against many opponents.
Fast moves oriented toward Psychic and Steel
Charged moves with high power
Excellent synergy with Steel moves in battle
Thanks to its Ability, it ignores certain defensive effects from opponents, further enhancing its effectiveness in duels and raids.
Battle Utility and Strategy
Solgaleo is widely used in strategic battles, particularly in Legendary formats. Its natural bulk, combined with its raw power, allows it to absorb heavy damage while maintaining constant pressure. It is effective against Fairy, Rock, and Ice types.
Its Shiny form exists and is highly sought after by collectors. It retains the same stats but stands out with slightly modified colors, which increases its symbolic value.
Pokémon Cards and Collection
Solgaleo appears on several Pokémon cards, notably in GX and alternate art versions. A well-preserved Solgaleo Pokémon card can reach an interesting value depending on the set, condition, and rarity. Cards from the Sun and Moon series are particularly appreciated.
Whether for competitive play, Pokémon GO, or collecting, Solgaleo remains an iconic, powerful, and unmissable Pokémon for any player interested in Steel and Psychic-type Legendaries.
