Overview of Latios

Latios is a legendary Pokémon of the Dragon and Psychic type, introduced in the third generation in the Hoenn region. Its English name is Latios and its Japanese name is ラティオス. It is part of the Eon Duo alongside Latias, with whom it shares many similarities in terms of stats, type, and role in battle. Latios is recognized for its great intelligence, high Speed, and ability to travel rapidly through the sky.

In the Pokédex, Latios is described as a Pokémon capable of understanding human language. It uses telepathy to communicate and to avoid unnecessary battles. Its size is approximately 2 meters for a weight close to 60 kg, which remains light for a Dragon. Its streamlined body is built for high-speed flight, which is directly reflected in its base stats.

Base stats and characteristics

Latios's stats make it an excellent choice for strategic battle. It has balanced stats with a very high Special Attack and elevated Speed, allowing it to hit hard before its opponents. Its HP are decent for a legendary Pokémon, while its Defense and Special Defense offer reasonable resilience against many types.

Latios is often used as a special sweeper in the main games. Its stat base makes it effective both in solo battles and in competitive strategy. It has no evolution, which is consistent with its legendary status, and it is generally catchable at a high level in the games where it appears.

Type, weaknesses, and resistances

As a Dragon and Psychic Pokémon, Latios benefits from useful resistances against Water, Fire, Grass, Electric, and Fighting types. On the other hand, it is vulnerable to attacks of the Ice, Dragon, Dark, Ghost, and Bug types. These weaknesses must be taken into account when building a balanced team around it.

Its dual type gives it access to a wide variety of moves, making its sets very flexible depending on the desired playstyle.

Moves and battle potential

Latios has a broad selection of powerful moves. It excels with Dragon and Psychic attacks, but can also learn very useful coverage moves to catch its opponents off guard. Thanks to its high Special Attack, it deals significant damage from the very first turns of battle.

In competitive games, Latios is often used with high-power attacks to maximize its impact. It is particularly effective in fast-paced battles where Speed is a key factor.

Latios in games and additional content

Latios appears in many Pokémon games, including Ruby, Sapphire, Emerald, and their remakes. It is also present in more recent versions such as Scarlet and Violet via specific content. In Pokémon GO, Latios is available during legendary raids, where it represents an interesting challenge for players.

Latios is also highly appreciated in the Pokémon trading card game. Latios cards, including EX and GX versions, are sought after for their artwork and their power in play. Its relationship with Latias is often highlighted in films and articles dedicated to legendary Pokémon.

Catching and availability

The capture of Latios varies depending on the game. It is sometimes roaming the region, making an encounter more complex, or it becomes available after certain key events. Its catch rate is generally low, which reflects its legendary status and requires adequate preparation to add it to your team.

Latios remains an iconic Pokémon, both for players oriented toward battle and for Pokémon card collectors and Pokédex enthusiasts.
