Detailed information

General overview of Kirlia

Kirlia is a Psychic type Pokémon, introduced in the third generation and native to the Hoenn region. Its English name is Kirlia and its Japanese name is キルリア. It is the direct evolution of Ralts from a certain level onward, and it forms a key stepping stone before reaching Gardevoir or Gallade depending on the evolution conditions.

In the Pokédex, Kirlia is described as a Pokémon very sensitive to human emotions. It senses its Trainer's feelings and adapts its behavior accordingly. This trait directly influences its battle style, which is based on Psychic attacks and mental disruption techniques. Kirlia stands approximately 0.8 m tall and weighs around 20 kg, making it a light and mobile Pokémon.

Type, stats and base of Kirlia

Kirlia has a pure Psychic type in the majority of classic generations. This type gives it access to many effective mental attacks, but also weaknesses to Ghost, Bug and Dark types. In competitive battles, these vulnerabilities must be taken into account when composing a team.

Its base stats emphasize Special Attack over Defense. HP remains average, while physical Defense is relatively low. On the other hand, the Special Attack stat allows Kirlia to deal solid damage from the mid-game onward.

  • Decent HP for an intermediate Pokémon

  • High Special Attack for its level

  • Fragile Defense and Special Defense

  • Enough Speed to attack first

Important attacks and moves

Kirlia naturally learns several useful Psychic attacks to progress efficiently. Confusion is one of its signature attacks, ideal for exploiting its Special Attack. It is often paired with Psybeam, a more basic move but available at low levels.

As it levels up, Kirlia can also learn Disarming Voice, an interesting attack against certain types that resist Psychic moves. It can also access moves such as Future Sight, Charge Beam or Shock Wave via TMs depending on the generation.

  • Confusion for primary Psychic damage

  • Disarming Voice for offensive coverage

  • Future Sight to anticipate opposing turns

  • Ice or Electric attacks via TMs depending on the set

Evolution, capture and EVs

Kirlia evolves from Ralts at level 20. Its final evolution then depends on several factors. By leveling up naturally, Kirlia becomes Gardevoir. In certain generations, a male Kirlia can evolve into Gallade using a Dawn Stone.

Kirlia's catch rate remains moderate. It is generally encountered in specific areas linked to nature or calm environments. Keeping its HP low and using status conditions greatly facilitates the capture.

In terms of EVs, Kirlia is often used to accumulate Special Attack and Speed. This choice effectively prepares its final evolution, particularly for a Gardevoir oriented toward special combat.

Kirlia in the games and trading cards

In the main games such as Ruby, Sapphire, Diamond, Pearl, Sun, Moon, Scarlet and Violet, Kirlia is an excellent transition Pokémon. It allows players to build a solid Psychic team before accessing more powerful forms.

In the Trading Card Game, Kirlia appears regularly as an intermediate card with support attacks or effects tied to Psychic energy. Certain cards highlight its emotional bond with its Trainer, reinforcing strategies based on drawing or bench preparation.

In Pokémon GO, Kirlia is sought after for its final evolution and the use of specific candy. It is sometimes available during events or minor raids, making it an interesting target for optimizing its IVs and max CP.
