Overview of Haxorus

Haxorus is a Dragon-type Pokémon introduced in the Unova region. Its Japanese name is オノノクス. It is the final form of the evolutionary line beginning with Axew, making it a Pokémon geared toward battle and raw power. Haxorus is widely appreciated by players for its devastating physical attacks and its role as a sweeper in many competitive formats.

In the Pokédex, Haxorus is described as a Pokémon whose tusks are so powerful they can slice through steel effortlessly. This characteristic is directly reflected in its design and gameplay, with an extremely high base Attack stat and constant offensive pressure.

Type, stats, and strategic profile

Haxorus is purely Dragon-type, granting it useful resistances against Fire, Water, Grass, and Electric attacks, but also a pronounced weakness to Dragon, Ice, and Fairy moves. Its total base stats are very high, with a dominant Attack, solid physical Defense, and decent HP to absorb several hits.

Its imposing size and intimidating appearance make it a frequent pick for teams looking to impose an aggressive pace. In battle, Haxorus is often used as a finisher thanks to stat boosts or its ability to force out opposing checks.

Abilities and battle effectiveness

Haxorus can have abilities such as Rivalry or Mold Breaker. The latter is particularly sought after as it allows it to bypass certain defensive abilities on opponents, making its attacks even harder to counter. In practice, this allows Haxorus to hit Steel- or Ground-type Pokémon effectively even when they rely on their abilities to reduce damage.

With proper level management and EVs focused on Attack and Speed, Haxorus becomes an immediate threat capable of turning a battle around in just a few turns.

Moves and recommended sets

Haxorus's wide move pool is one of its main strengths. It naturally learns powerful Dragon moves like Outrage and Dragon Claw, as well as coverage moves like Earthquake to hit Steel and Rock types. Moves like Counter or False Swipe can also be used depending on the chosen set.

  • Outrage to deal massive damage in the endgame

  • Earthquake to cover Steel and Poison types

  • Dragon Dance to boost its power and Speed

  • Metal Claw or Night Slash for versatility

Evolution, breeding, and obtaining

Haxorus is the final evolution of Axew, which first evolves into Fraxure before reaching its final form at a high level. This late evolution makes it a rare Pokémon, often sought out through wild encounters or breeding.

Through breeding, Haxorus can pass down interesting moves to its line, allowing stat optimization from hatching. In Pokémon Black and White, it is considered a powerful but demanding Pokémon to train.

Collectible cards and value for players

In the Trading Card Game, Haxorus has several cards appreciated for their power and design. Some cards highlight its high-damage Dragon attacks, making them attractive to both collectors and competitive players.

Its Shiny form, highly recognizable, is also in great demand. Haxorus thus remains an iconic Pokémon for players seeking a pure Dragon oriented toward strength, both in the video games and in the Trading Card Game.
