General overview of Fraxure

Fraxure is a Dragon-type Pokémon introduced in the fifth generation. Its French name is Incisache and its Japanese name is オノンド. This Pokémon is the direct evolution of Axew and represents a key step before reaching its final form, Haxorus. Fraxure is recognizable by its large bony tusks that protrude from its jaw, which it uses as genuine weapons in battle.

In the Pokédex, Fraxure is classified as a combative and territorial Pokémon. It lives mainly in mountainous or isolated areas of the Unova region. Its medium size and bipedal stance make it an agile Dragon, capable of chaining fast and powerful physical attacks. Players appreciate Fraxure for its offensive potential at an intermediate level.

Base stats and competitive profile

Fraxure has stats oriented toward Attack, making it an excellent choice for teams focused on physical damage. Its base Attack is high for a Pokémon at this stage of evolution, while its Defense and HP remain decent without being exceptional. Its Speed is average, often requiring good positioning or team support in battle.

In terms of EV stats, Fraxure is generally optimized with maximum investment in Attack and Speed. This distribution allows it to take full advantage of its offensive moves and surprise certain opponents before they can retaliate. Its Special Defense remains its weak point, which requires some caution against special attacks.

Available moves and abilities

Fraxure's movepool is centered on Dragon and powerful physical attacks. It naturally learns Dragon Claw, Slash, and Dragon Fang — moves that are ideal for dealing heavy damage in battle. It can also access False Swipe, very useful for capturing wild Pokémon without knocking them out.

Fraxure's abilities enhance its effectiveness in battle. Rivalry increases its damage based on the opponent's gender, while Mold Breaker allows it to ignore certain defensive abilities. The latter is particularly appreciated in competitive play as it allows Fraxure to bypass disruptive abilities such as Levitate.

Evolution and acquisition method

Fraxure evolves into Haxorus starting at level 48, making it a relatively late evolution. This slow progression is compensated by a clear increase in power and Defense once evolution is reached. Players must therefore be patient to exploit the full potential of this line.

For captures, Fraxure can be encountered in the wild in certain specific areas depending on the game version. Its catch rate is moderate, making the use of False Swipe and status conditions such as sleep or paralysis particularly effective.

Use in battle and counters

In battle, Fraxure is primarily used as a physical attacker. It excels against Fire, Water, and Grass-type Pokémon when equipped with the right coverage moves. However, it remains vulnerable to Ice, Fairy, and Steel types, which represent its main counters.

To limit these weaknesses, it is advisable to pair it with partners capable of absorbing Ice or Fairy-type attacks. When used well, Fraxure can quickly apply pressure on the opposing team and open the path to a strategic victory.

Fraxure in the Trading Card Game

In the Pokémon TCG, Fraxure appears on several cards highlighting its physical attacks and its Dragon type. These cards are often sought after by collectors of the Unova generation, particularly in their shiny or alternative versions.

The value of Fraxure cards varies by edition, condition, and rarity. Certain versions from the Black and White series are appreciated for their detailed artwork and their faithfulness to the Pokédex design.
