Overview of Gorebyss
Gorebyss is a Water-type Pokémon that appeared in the Hoenn region. Its French name is Rosabyss and its Japanese name is サクラビス. It is known for its elegant appearance and its elongated pink body, which contrasts with its behavior as a marine predator. Gorebyss lives primarily in the ocean depths and rarely appears near the surface. It is often sought after by players for its unique evolution method and for its distinctive place in the Pokédex.
This Pokémon is the evolution of Clamperl when traded while holding the DeepSeaScale item. This evolution method makes it less accessible than other classic species, which increases its appeal in capturing and collecting. Gorebyss stands out with a high Special Attack and decent Speed, but it remains fragile on the defensive side.
Type and general characteristics
Gorebyss is exclusively Water type. This type allows it to naturally resist Fire-, Ice-, Steel-, and Water-type attacks. On the other hand, it remains sensitive to Grass- and Electric-type attacks, which sometimes limits its use in strategic battle.
It measures approximately 1.8 metres, making it a relatively large Pokémon for an aquatic species. Its slim and supple body allows it to move quickly in water, an important element for surprising opponents and capturing prey.
Base stats and battle potential
Gorebyss's base stats are oriented toward Special offense and Speed. Its HP are decent without being exceptional, while its physical Defense remains low. This distribution makes it better suited to a special sweeper role, capable of dealing heavy damage before being knocked out.
High Special Attack, ideal for exploiting powerful Water moves
Decent Speed allowing it to outrun many opposing Pokémon
Low Defense and Special Defense, requiring good anticipation
Notable moves and abilities
Gorebyss learns several effective Water moves as it levels up. Water Pulse is often used early in progression for its reliability. Later, it can access more powerful special moves that take advantage of its excellent Special Attack stat.
It can also learn Psychic-type moves or support moves via TM, allowing it to surprise certain opponents in battle. However, its movepool remains relatively limited compared to other Water-type Pokémon.
Evolution and how to obtain
Gorebyss is obtained exclusively by evolving Clamperl. This evolution requires a trade while holding the DeepSeaScale item, which implies interaction with another player. This constraint makes its encounter rate rarer in certain versions and increases its value for collectors.
In the Pokédex, Gorebyss is described as a Pokémon living in the abyss, using its long snout to pierce its prey and absorb their vital fluids. This description reinforces its image as a discreet and dangerous predator.
Gorebyss in games and cards
In the Pokémon games, Gorebyss primarily appears in Ruby, Sapphire, and Emerald versions, as well as in their remakes. It is sometimes available in Pokémon GO during specific events or via evolution. In the Trading Card Game, Gorebyss has several editions appreciated for its design and its damage-oriented Water attacks.
Its elegant appearance, its unique evolution method, and its offensive stats make Gorebyss an interesting choice for players looking for an original Water-type Pokémon and for collectors wishing to complete their Hoenn set.
