Detailed information

Overview of Geodude

Geodude is the English name for the Pokémon known in Japanese as イシツブテ (Ishitsubute). Present in the Pokédex since the first generation, this Rock and Ground type Pokémon is very popular in games for its toughness and high defensive stats. Always associated with sand, caves, and mountain routes, Geodude appears frequently at the start of the adventure, making it an easy ally to catch but formidable as it levels up.

Characteristics and typing

Dual-typed as Rock and Ground, Geodude has excellent Defense and a natural resistance to Fire and Poison. Its HP and Speed are low, but its raw strength and access to moves like Rock Slide, Dig, and Rock Throw make it a Pokémon useful against many opponents. In Pokémon GO, it also exists as an Alolan form, where it becomes Rock/Electric.

Evolution and breeding

Geodude evolves into Graveler at a certain level, then into Golem via a trade. This mechanic is identical across all main generations. Regarding breeding, Geodude belongs to the Mineral egg group and generally hatches baby Geodude. Parents that know certain TMs can pass on moves like Tackle or Karate Chop depending on the game.

Stats and base values

Geodude's stats focus heavily on physical Defense. Its base value table centers around a very high defensive score, a decent Attack, but low Speed and Special Defense. In terms of CP or battle power in Pokémon GO, its maximum form remains limited, though its Alolan form has a better role in certain raids or leagues.

Locations and capture

In the main games, Geodude can be found in numerous caves, rocky routes, or mountain areas such as Mt. Moon or deep caverns. Its catch rate is fairly simple, allowing players to train it very early. It appears consistently across generations and even has different Pokédex entries depending on the region, including the Alolan islands.

Weight, height, and Pokédex information

With a modest weight and small size, Geodude is a compact but extremely hard Pokémon, composed almost entirely of rock. Its national Pokédex number is #074. Some entries describe it letting itself be carried along by rocky mountain streams or liking to hide among boulders at high altitude.

Strategy and tips for players

Against Geodude, the types Fighting, Water, Grass, and Ice are effective counters. Strategically, Geodude and its evolutions are valued for setting Stealth Rock, tanking physical hits, and using powerful attacks like Rock Slide. Its Alolan form can surprise opponents thanks to the dual typing Rock/Electric.

Pokémon TCG and collecting

In the Pokémon TCG, Geodude (along with Graveler and Golem) has several cards, often centered on defense or rock-based attacks. Some editions highlight its Alolan form. Collectors appreciate illustrations showing the Pokémon in rocky environments or in full charging motion.
