Detailed information

Overview of Golem

Golem, known in Japanese as ゴローニャ (Golonya), is a Rock and Ground type Pokémon greatly appreciated by players for its raw power and solid defensive role. In the Pokédex, it is the final evolution of Graveler, which itself comes from Geodude. As with many Pokémon in this family, evolution into Golem is achieved through trading, making it a Pokémon often obtained later in the adventure if a trading partner is not immediately available.

Its massive body made of extremely dense rock gives it an impressive base Defense and a good HP pool. Golem is particularly useful against Fire, Flying, and Rock Pokémon, and is an excellent counter to endurance-based teams. However, its weaknesses to Water, Grass, Ice, and the double Ground type require cautious play, especially in strategic content.

Information, stats, and evolution

Golem remains a cornerstone in the main games for those seeking a Pokémon capable of tanking heavily and responding with devastating physical attacks. At a sufficient level, it can reach very high Attack and Defense values, giving it a very stable combat set. Its evolution never occurs without a trade, which differentiates it from some other similar evolution chains.

Generally, its base total centers around a balanced set with a clear emphasis on Defense. Players optimizing EVs often prioritize Attack and Defense to make it a pillar against certain types, especially Electric (against which it is fully immune). Its imposing size and high kg weight reinforce its identity as the quintessential Rock Pokémon.

Important moves and abilities

Golem has a very effective lineup of physical attacks. Moves like Rock Slide, Stone Edge, Earthquake, and Rock Blast are among the most commonly played in its learning set. Its Ground typing also allows it to learn Dig or powerful TMs in certain generations.

In a strategic role, Earthquake remains its signature attack for dealing heavy damage while staying reliable. Depending on the version, it can also learn Thunder Punch, giving it surprising coverage in certain sets. Players in Pokémon GO often choose it for raids where raw power is paramount, even though its max CP does not reach that of Legendary Pokémon.

Battle usage and resistances

Golem's resistances include Rock, Normal, Poison, and Fire, giving it good longevity in many situations. Its full immunity to the Electric type is a decisive advantage for countering fast Pokémon like Jolteon or Electabuzz.

On the other hand, its weaknesses to Water, Grass, Ice, and Ground must be carefully anticipated. A single mistimed switch can cost it the battle. In certain generations, it is particularly vulnerable to special attacks, requiring careful reading of the opponent's intentions.

Golem in Pokémon GO

In Pokémon GO, Golem remains an interesting pick for raids and Gym battles. Its max CP depends on the Trainer's level and the Stardust spent, but it remains easily usable up to level 40. Its catch rate in the wild is not particularly high, as it mostly appears through the evolution of Graveler.

Its Alolan form, Rock and Electric type, offers an interesting alternative but has a different role. Players must choose which Golem to include based on their team's needs, particularly in competitive play or against Pokémon using Water or Ground attacks.

Roles, spawn locations, and breeding

Golem rarely appears in the wild depending on the game, often limited to rocky areas or tunnels. This pushes players to favor evolving Graveler over catching one directly. Regarding eggs, the Geodude–Graveler–Golem evolution chain generally follows the same groups, making targeted breeding straightforward.

Whether solo, in a raid, or in competitive battle, Golem remains a stable, powerful Pokémon that is particularly useful when its role is well understood. Its massive design and Pokédex descriptions make it a staple of the classic generations, often chosen by fans of Rock-type Pokémon.
