General overview of Chandelure
Chandelure is a Fire and Ghost-type Pokémon introduced in the fifth generation. Its English name is Chandelure and its Japanese name is シャンデラ. It represents the final evolution of the spectral candle line and stands out for its simultaneously elegant and unsettling appearance. Chandelure is particularly appreciated by competitive players for its high special power, and by collectors for its cards with strong visual appeal.
Type, role, and use in battle
Thanks to its Fire and Ghost combination, Chandelure has an excellent offensive profile. It is capable of dealing heavy damage with special attacks while threatening many common types. Its main role in battle is that of a special sweeper or wallbreaker, capable of breaking through opposing defenses when well positioned.
Its typing offers several useful resistances, notably against Fire, Grass, Ice, and Bug-type attacks. In return, it remains vulnerable to Water, Rock, Ground, and Ghost-type attacks, requiring good anticipation during Pokémon switches.
Base stats and strategic potential
Chandelure has a very high Special Attack stat, which is its main asset. Its decent Special Defense allows it to absorb certain attacks, but its physical Defense and Speed remain average. It is therefore advisable to use it with a safe switch-in or after a fast threat has been eliminated.
In terms of EVs, players generally optimize Special Attack and Speed to maximize its offensive impact. A suitable nature such as Modest or Timid is often preferred depending on whether one is looking for raw power or the ability to outspeed certain key opponents. IVs are also important to unlock Chandelure's full potential at level 50 or level 100.
Evolution and in-game acquisition
Chandelure is the final evolution of the line beginning with Litwick. Its evolution requires the use of a Dusk Stone, which allows players to choose the optimal moment to trigger the evolution based on the moves already learned. This mechanic makes Chandelure interesting to plan for in a team, especially to retain certain attacks before evolving.
Depending on the game version, Chandelure can be obtained in various areas or through controlled evolution. Its presence in the Unova Pokédex makes it an iconic Pokémon of this generation.
Key moves and popular attacks
Chandelure excels with powerful special attacks such as Shadow Ball and Fire Blast, which fully exploit its type and stats. Will-O-Wisp is often used to cripple opposing physical attackers, while coverage moves can be used to surprise certain counters.
In advanced competitive play, Chandelure can also exploit positioning or support moves depending on the game format. Its offensive versatility makes it a frequent choice in special damage-oriented teams.
Chandelure in the Pokémon Trading Card Game
In the Trading Card Game, Chandelure benefits from several cards sought after for their dark and detailed artwork. Certain Chandelure Pokémon cards are appreciated for their rarity or their price on the secondary market. Collectors particularly appreciate the shiny and alternative versions, which showcase its spectral flames and unique design.
Whether for competitive play or collecting, Chandelure remains a standout Pokémon for its power, its aesthetics, and its lasting place in the Pokémon universe.
