Detailed information

Overview of Beldum

Beldum is a Pokémon of the Steel and Psychic type introduced in the third generation. Its English name is Beldum and its Japanese name is ダンバル. Beldum stands out for its massive metallic body, composed of pure iron, and its unique mode of movement based on magnetic levitation. For players, it is a key long-term Pokémon, as its final evolution leads to Metagross, one of the most powerful and versatile creatures in the games.

In the Pokédex, Beldum is often presented as a difficult Pokémon to catch. It generally appears at a relatively low level, but already possesses solid defensive stats thanks to its Steel type. Its rarity in the games and its role in the evolutionary line make it a prime target for players looking to build a competitive team or complete their collection.

Type, weaknesses, and resistances

Beldum combines the Steel and Psychic types, giving it a very particular defensive profile. This combination greatly reduces damage taken from many standard attacks, but also introduces significant weaknesses to bear in mind during battles.

  • Main weaknesses against Fire, Ground, Ghost, and Dark attacks

  • Excellent resistances against Normal, Flying, Rock, Grass, Ice, and Steel attacks

  • Partial immunity to certain opposing Psychic moves depending on the generation

These characteristics make Beldum underwhelming in direct offense at first, but very interesting as a defensive foundation while waiting for its evolution.

Moves and available abilities

Beldum's move pool is limited, which is consistent with its base stage. It learns few moves by level-up, which encourages the player to plan ahead for its evolution rather than using it extensively in battle.

  • Tackle and Take Down to deal simple physical damage

  • Confusion as its first accessible Psychic move

  • Possibility of learning Steel moves via TM depending on the games

Its special ability is generally Clear Body, preventing its stats from being lowered — a valuable asset in strategic battles and raids in certain versions.

Stats and evolution

Beldum's stats are unbalanced, with decent Attack but very low Speed. Its base Defense, however, is high for a Pokémon of this level, allowing it to absorb several hits despite a limited HP pool.

Beldum evolves into Metang starting at level 20. This evolution noticeably improves its overall stats and broadens its move access. Metang will then evolve into Metagross, completely transforming its role in battle and making it a pillar of power- and control-oriented teams.

Catching, locations, and availability

In the majority of games, Beldum is not available in the wild in the traditional sense. It is often given by a key character after the end of the main adventure or accessible in a specific area as a reward. This particularity reinforces its value in the eyes of players and influences its catch rate, which is often very low.

In Pokémon GO, Beldum is highly sought after during events and raids, as its final evolution has excellent DPS. Its Shiny form, recognizable by its distinct silver hue, is also very prized.

Beldum in the Pokémon card game

In the trading card game, Beldum appears regularly in sets related to the Steel and Psychic types. Its cards generally display low HP but utility abilities, serving as support for Metang and Metagross. Shiny and alternate versions attract collectors in particular, especially in recent sets and special editions.

For both players and collectors, Beldum remains a strategic Pokémon to obtain early in order to prepare a powerful and lasting evolution.
