Detailed information
Azumarill is a Pokémon of the Water and Fairy type introduced in the second generation. Its English name is Azumarill and its Japanese name is マリルリ. It represents the final evolution of Marill, which itself comes from Azurill as a pre-evolution. Azumarill is particularly appreciated by players for its unexpectedly raw power and its strategic role both in the main games and in competitive battles.
Type and role in battle
Azumarill has the dual Water and Fairy type, which grants it key resistances against Fighting, Dark, and Fire types. This Water type makes it very present in many teams, particularly for countering Dragon threats. In battle, Azumarill is known for its high offensive power despite seemingly modest base Attack statistics on paper.
Base stats and true potential
Azumarill's base stats highlight a very high HP total, allowing it to take many hits. Its true power comes primarily from its Huge Power ability, which doubles its Attack stat. Thanks to this ability, Azumarill becomes a genuine powerhouse capable of knocking out opponents that are much faster or theoretically stronger.
High HP for lasting on the field
Attack boosted by Huge Power
Decent defenses for a versatile role
Low Speed offset by priority moves
Moves and battle strategy
Azumarill has an excellent movepool oriented toward power and immediate pressure. Water moves like Waterfall or Aqua Jet are central, the latter allowing it to strike with priority. The Fairy type brings moves like Play Rough, fearsome against Dragon and Fighting types. It can also learn Ice or Fighting moves to broaden its coverage.
In competitive play, Azumarill is often used as a physical sweeper or offensive tank. Its classic set relies on Aqua Jet, Play Rough, and a coverage move chosen according to the team's needs. It is effective both in solo play and in online battles.
Azumarill in the Pokédex and in the games
In the Pokédex, Azumarill is described as a Pokémon capable of staying underwater for a long time thanks to its inflatable ears. It appears in many games such as Pokémon Black, White, Sun, Moon, HeartGold, and SoulSilver. It is often available at an intermediate level, making it an accessible evolution during the adventure.
Azumarill and Pokémon cards
In the Pokémon card game, Azumarill has seen several interesting versions, including cards focused on power and durability. Certain Azumarill Pokémon cards highlight its high HP and its Water moves with consistent damage. Special versions such as ex or delta species have reinforced its appeal among collectors.
Azumarill remains a solid choice for players and fans of strategy guides and Pokémon cards alike, thanks to its balance between ease of use and maximum effectiveness.
