Detailed information

General Overview of Arcanine

Arcanine, known as Arcanine in English and ウインディ (Windie) in Japanese, is a Fire-type Pokémon renowned for its raw power and remarkable Speed. Present in many generations, it remains one of the most appreciated creatures thanks to its majestic design and impressive flames. This overview gathers all the useful information for players – whether for battle, team strategy, or collectible cards.

Description and Pokédex Characteristics

Arcanine is a Pokémon quadruped inspired by a large legendary dog. Its Pokédex number varies depending on the game, but it is always linked to Growlithe, its pre-evolution. It reaches an imposing size and a weight of approximately 155 kg, making it a massive yet elegant Pokémon. Its base level and values in HP, Attack, and Speed allow it to reach great potential, especially when properly trained with optimal IVs. Its flames are described as capable of covering many kilometers at lightning speed, a source of inspiration in several official descriptions.

Type, Resistances, and Weaknesses

Arcanine is a Fire type. This grants it several interesting resistances in battle:

  • Resistance to Grass, Steel, Ice, and Fairy attacks.

  • Weakness to Water, Rock, and Ground types.

Thanks to its high base Attack, Arcanine can deal massive damage and play a key role in an offensively oriented team.

Evolution and Obtaining Methods

Arcanine has no further evolution: it is the final form of Growlithe. To obtain an Arcanine, simply use a Fire Stone on a Growlithe. The level therefore does not matter for triggering its evolution, but it is generally advisable to wait for Growlithe to learn its best moves before evolving it.

Important Moves and Abilities

Arcanine has a wide move set. Among the main Fire moves:

  • Fire Fang – ideal early in the game.

  • Flamethrower – one of the best compromises between accuracy and power.

  • Flare Blitz – the most powerful move but deals recoil damage.

In the Dark type, Crunch remains an excellent hit for countering Ghost Pokémon. It can also learn Rock, Electric, or Normal moves via TM, giving it a very varied offensive range.

Combat Performance and Strategy

With high Attack and Speed, Arcanine shines in fast battles. Its main role is often that of a physical sweeper, but it can be built defensively thanks to its solid Special Defense base. Its stats also allow playing with items like Berries, Life Orb, or Heavy-Duty Boots, depending on the chosen strategy.

For training, targeting Attack and Speed EVs is generally optimal, but a more balanced distribution can work in a survival-oriented set.

Arcanine in Pokémon GO

In Pokémon GO, Arcanine reaches an interesting max CP for intermediate raids. Its attack speed and Fire moves like Flamethrower or Fire Fang make it effective against Grass or Ice Pokémon. The catch rate depends on the raid's level and it remains a reliable option, especially if you do not yet have access to the best Fire Pokémon in the game.

Additional Information for Collectors

Arcanine has many cards across the various generations of the Pokémon TCG. Cards depicting its flames or imposing silhouette are particularly sought after. Versions from the Diamond and Pearl, Black and White, or Platinum sets can reach interesting prices depending on condition and rarity.
