Detailed information
General overview of Wugtrio
Wugtrio is a Pokémon introduced in the ninth generation, appearing in Pokémon Scarlet and Pokémon Violet. Its French name is Triopikeau and its Japanese name is ウミトリオ. It is the direct evolution of Wiglett, a marine Pokémon with deceptive behavior that lives primarily on the beaches and sandy areas of Paldea.
Wugtrio is a Water-type Pokémon, known for its unusual appearance composed of three elongated bodies emerging from the sand. This particularity strongly influences its battle style, both in the video games and in the Pokémon TCG, where it relies on Speed, multiple hits, and constant pressure on the target.
General information and type
Wugtrio belongs exclusively to the Water type, which grants it clear advantages against Fire, Rock, and Ground Pokémon. In return, it remains vulnerable to Grass and Electric moves, which requires some anticipation in strategic battles.
In the Paldea Pokédex, Wugtrio is described as a Pokémon that attacks as a synchronized group. This mechanic is felt in its moves oriented toward rapid damage and repeated strikes.
Evolutions and obtaining
Wugtrio is the evolution of Wiglett. The evolution is triggered simply by leveling Wiglett up, without any specific item or special condition tied to the Scarlet or Violet version.

Stats and recommended nature
Wugtrio stands out for its very high Speed stat, making it an excellent fast attacker. Its Attack is decent and allows it to deal consistent damage, while its Defense remains relatively low, making it susceptible to powerful hits.
To optimize its battle potential, a nature that boosts Speed or Attack is often preferred. In EV strategy, players invest primarily in Speed and Attack in order to maximize its role as a sweeper.
Moves and key abilities
Wugtrio's moveset relies on fast Water moves and disruptive abilities. It excels in dynamic battles where it can strike before the opponent and retreat if necessary.
Water moves with strong offensive pressure
Abilities that take advantage of its natural Speed
Options to hit multiple times or lower opposing stats
In Double battles, Wugtrio can surprise by rapidly targeting a fragile opponent, creating a numerical advantage from the first turns.
Wugtrio in the Pokémon TCG
In the Trading Card Game, Wugtrio appears as a Pokémon card highlighting its speed and direct attacks. Certain versions may offer effects related to the opponent's bench or spread damage, echoing its behavior as a trio.
Wugtrio or Wugtrio ex cards are often used in tempo-oriented Water decks, capable of applying pressure quickly. Their energy cost generally remains moderate, which makes them easy to integrate into various archetypes.
Strategic role and in-game usage
Wugtrio is particularly appreciated by players looking for a fast Pokémon capable of hitting hard without excessive setup. It fits well into a Water team or as a surprise choice to counter certain popular types in Paldea.
Its defensive weakness does however require a good read of the battle. Well used, Wugtrio can chain decisive blows and turn a situation around in a few turns, both in singles and Double battles.
