General Overview of Watchog
Watchog is a Normal-type Pokémon introduced in the Unova region. It is the direct evolution of Patrat, obtained by leveling up. Its French name is Miradar and its Japanese name is ミルホッグ. Watchog is known for its piercing gaze, its glowing eyes, and its role as a sentinel, capable of surveying a wide perimeter and anticipating incoming attacks.
In the Pokédex, Watchog is listed as a Pokémon that is highly alert to its environment. It uses the light reflected by its eyes to intimidate enemies and power up certain moves. Its slender body, rigid tail, and expressive face make it easily recognizable in battles and in the wild.
Watchog's Type and Weaknesses
Watchog is a pure Normal-type Pokémon. This type offers it a degree of neutrality against many opponents, but it also has clear weaknesses that can be exploited in battle.
Main weakness: Fighting-type moves
Total immunity to Ghost-type moves
No particular resistances to other types
This configuration makes Watchog vulnerable to punching moves and powerful physical techniques, but allows it to effectively block certain shadow-based strategies.
Watchog's Stats and EVs
Watchog's base stats are geared toward Attack and Speed, with decent HP for a mid-stage evolution. Its offensive power relies mainly on physical moves such as Bite and Crunch.
Decent HP to take a few hits
Decent physical Attack
Enough Speed to strike first at low levels
Limited defenses, especially against Fighting-type moves
The EVs gained by defeating Watchog are generally oriented toward Attack, making it interesting for training Pokémon that focus on raw power.
Evolution and Acquisition
Watchog is the final evolution of Patrat. The evolution occurs at a certain level, with no special conditions tied to nature or time of day. There is no further evolution beyond Watchog.
In Pokémon Black and White and Black 2 and White 2, Watchog can be found in the wild in certain areas of Unova, generally at a higher level than Patrat. It is also available through trading or indirect breeding.
Moves and Compatible TMs
Watchog's movepool is varied and includes several offensive moves based on biting and raw power. It can learn secondary Fire moves and interesting support moves.
Bite and Crunch to deal consistent damage
Work Up to boost its Attack
Flamethrower via TM in certain generations
Normal-type moves to benefit from STAB
Thanks to TMs, Watchog can adapt its moveset to the desired strategy, whether in solo play, classic turn-by-turn battles, or to surprise the opponent with unexpected coverage.
Watchog in the Pokémon Trading Card Game
Watchog exists in several forms as a collectible Pokémon card. These cards often highlight its luminous gaze, its yellow eyes, and its body held in a defensive posture. Some alternative or special versions feature moves focused on crunching and constant pressure.
Watchog cards are appreciated for completing the Patrat evolution line and for their consistency with mechanics built around progressive damage and controlling the pace of battle.
