Detailed information

General Overview of Lillipup

Lillipup is a Normal-type Pokémon introduced in the Unova region. It is known by its Japanese name ヨーテリー. This puppy Pokémon is often encountered very early in the adventure, making it a frequent companion for many beginner Trainers. Lillipup holds an important place in the Unova Pokédex thanks to its early availability and its accessible evolution at a low level.

In Pokémon Black and White, Lillipup is portrayed as a loyal, obedient, and well-balanced Pokémon. It is often used to learn the basics of battle, level management, and physical moves. Its great loyalty toward its Trainer is highlighted in several Pokédex entries, reinforcing its image as a reliable partner.

Type and General Information

Lillipup is exclusively Normal type. This type grants it interesting neutrality against many enemies, even though it remains weak to Fighting-type moves. In return, it is completely immune to Ghost-type moves, which can be a non-negligible strategic advantage in certain battles.

This Pokémon is small in size but has a sturdy constitution for a puppy. Its relative endurance allows it to take hits reasonably well in the early stages of the game. The information available in the Pokédex indicates that Lillipup has a very well-developed sense of smell, capable of recognizing its Trainer's scent even after several years.

Level, Evolution, and Progression

Lillipup evolves at a certain level, making it an interesting choice for natural progression through the adventure. It evolves into Herdier at level 16, then into Stoutland at level 32. This gradual evolution allows the player to keep the same Pokémon for a long period while enjoying a constant increase in power and stats.

Reaching a high level with Lillipup is relatively straightforward thanks to its frequent presence in starting areas. It is therefore common to see it surpass level 40 without particular difficulty, especially in teams oriented toward physical combat.

Stats and Battle Potential

Lillipup's stats are balanced for an early-game Pokémon. It has decent HP, a reasonable physical Attack, and enough Defense to hold its own against common opponents. Its Speed remains average, which sometimes requires anticipating incoming damage.

Its battle potential relies mainly on consistency rather than power spikes. It is not designed to deal massive damage, but rather to last and chain moves reliably. Its base values remain modest but sufficient to progress smoothly.

Moves and Strategic Use

Lillipup learns several effective Normal-type moves from the early levels. Tackle is its basic move, ideal for dealing consistent damage without any special conditions. Later, it can learn Bite, which provides interesting coverage and allows it to handle certain more resistant enemies.

Thanks to the TMs and HMs available in Unova, Lillipup can access a varied moveset, boosting its usefulness in a team. Even if it is not meant for raids or advanced competitive battles, it remains an excellent choice for the main adventure and for accompanying a Trainer through the first hours of the game.

Pokémon Cards and Popularity

In the trading card game, Lillipup has several cards representing its basic form. These cards generally display modest HP and power suited to beginner decks. The price of these cards remains accessible, making them popular among novice collectors.

Lillipup's popularity rests as much on its endearing design as on its key role in Black and White. It perfectly embodies the companion Pokémon — loyal and useful — that many players remember from their first exploration of Unova.
