Detailed information

Overview of Victreebel

Victreebel, known in Japanese as ウツボット (Utsubot), is a Grass and Poison type Pokémon highly popular among players for its aggressive combat style and acid-based attacks. The final evolution of the Bellsprout family — following Weepinbell — Victreebel is described in the Pokédex as a Pokémon that uses its vines and enormous mouth to trap its prey. In games and cards alike, it stands out for its ability to deal continuous damage through toxic and corrosive attacks.

Its entirely plant-like, sac-shaped body allows it to spray an extremely corrosive acid capable of melting almost anything, a trait often highlighted in its official description. Some Pokédex entries even mention prey that "never returned alive" once captured… giving this jungle Pokémon a truly fearsome reputation.

Characteristics and useful information

Victreebel has a high base Attack for a Grass/Poison Pokémon, making it an excellent fighter in games that emphasize physical or special attacks such as Razor Leaf, Sludge Bomb, or Magical Leaf. Its HP and Defense stats are somewhat lower, which encourages a fast offensive strategy.

In the main games, Victreebel evolves from Weepinbell using a Leaf Stone. It therefore has no specific evolution level. Players appreciate this control since they can wait until Weepinbell has learned all of its useful attacks before triggering the evolution.

Its Grass/Poison typing offers a solid set of resistances, but leaves it vulnerable to Fire, Psychic, and Ice. This must be kept in mind during tough battles, especially in strategic challenges or competitive formats.

Physical details and Pokédex data

Height: 1.7 m Weight: 15.5 kg National Pokédex number: #071

Its wide, flexible body allows it to hang from a branch like a tropical plant. It uses its vines to immobilize an opponent before spraying corrosive fluid. Under strong sunlight, Victreebel becomes even more aggressive and gains power, making it a Pokémon to be reckoned with in hot environments or battles where Sunny Day is used.

Moves and role in battle

Victreebel can learn a solid variety of Grass, Poison, and even a few Normal-type moves to round out its set. Among the most useful moves across most games:

  • Sludge Bomb – a very powerful Poison attack with a useful poison chance.

  • Razor Leaf – a physical Grass attack with a high critical hit ratio.

  • Acid – a thematic signature move, mostly used in early game.

  • Poison Powder – perfect for a more strategic, attrition-based playstyle.

  • Swords Dance – boosts its Attack and turns it into a real threat.

  • Magical Leaf (via TM in certain games) – always hits its target.

In older strategic games (Ruby, Sapphire, Platinum, Black, etc.), Victreebel is often played offensively with a nature that boosts Attack or Special Attack depending on the chosen set. Sun weather can make it even faster and more dangerous, especially with the Chlorophyll ability.

Victreebel in the Pokémon TCG

In the Pokémon Trading Card Game, Victreebel is appreciated in sets that feature Grass Pokémon capable of dealing persistent damage or disrupting the opponent's Bench. Some Victreebel cards exploit its "prey-eater" nature with attacks that trap, move, or deal extra damage if a poisoned or paralyzed condition is in play.

Versions from generations such as Diamond/Pearl or Black/White sometimes highlight its carnivorous spirit, while more modern cards focus on powerful Grass attacks or control effects.

Victreebel is not the most common Grass/Poison Pokémon in competitive decks, but it remains a highly sought-after collector's card for its wild design and unique identity.
