General overview of Tympole
Tympole is a Water-type Pokémon introduced in the fifth generation. It is known in English as Tympole and in Japanese as オタマロ. This small tadpole Pokémon is often encountered early in the games, making it a frequent choice for building a Water-oriented team from the start.
In the Pokédex, Tympole is described as capable of emitting sounds imperceptible to humans in order to communicate or disorient its opponents. These waves play an important role in its attacks and combat style. Its shiny form is sought after by collectors, with an easily identifiable different coloration.
Tympole's stats and base
Tympole's base stats are suited to an early-game Pokémon. Its HP are solid for its level, while its Defense remains limited. Its Speed is average, which often forces it to take a hit before retaliating.
Balanced base HP for a Water-type Pokémon
Special Attack more interesting than physical Attack
Low Defense and Special Defense
Modest overall stats but effective in the early stages of the adventure
These characteristics make Tympole a useful Pokémon for progressing quickly, but one that requires evolution to remain competitive at higher levels.
Moves and use in battle
Tympole mainly learns Water and sound-based moves. Water Pulse is one of its key moves, dealing damage while benefiting from its Water typing. It can also use mud-based moves to hinder the opponent and reduce their accuracy.
Water Pulse as the main Water attack
Sonic Wave to disrupt the enemy
Sludge Wave via TM in certain games
Useful support moves in solo battles
Strategically, Tympole is not designed for high-level competitive play, but it remains effective for the main story and battles against wild Pokémon.
Evolution, level and breeding
Tympole evolves at a certain level, which greatly improves its stats and offensive potential. This evolution is essential to continue using it effectively beyond the mid-game.
It belongs to the Water egg group, which makes breeding easier with other Water-type Pokémon. Eggs allow you to obtain Tympole at a low level, ideal for optimizing its nature, EVs and moveset from the very start.
Capture, availability and rate
Tympole's capture is relatively straightforward. Its catch rate is high and it is often available in wet or rainy areas. It can be encountered at different levels depending on the zone, generally between level 15 and level 25.
Available early in several games
Frequent encounters in the wild
Easy to catch even without weakening it first
Present in certain raids and events depending on the version
Tympole in the cards and the Pokédex
In the card game, Tympole appears on several Basic cards. These cards are often used as support or as an evolution base. They are of most interest to collectors looking to complete series related to Unova or Water-type Pokémon.
Tympole's Pokédex entry highlights its mode of communication through sound waves and its discreet behavior. This information reinforces its unique identity among low-level aquatic Pokémon and explains its battle style focused on sounds and vibrations.
