Detailed information

Overview of Solrock

Solrock is a Rock and Psychic type Pokémon introduced in the third generation. It is known by its English name Solrock and its Japanese name ソルロック. Solrock is a mysterious mineral life form that draws its power directly from the sun, which strongly influences its stats, moves, and strategic role in battle.

In the Pokédex, Solrock is described as an entity capable of absorbing sunlight to enhance its internal energy. This characteristic is reflected in its Psychic and Rock moves, but also in its design reminiscent of a luminous celestial body floating through the air.

Solrock's type and stats

Type and resistances

Solrock has the dual Rock and Psychic typing. This combination grants it interesting resistances against Normal, Fire, Flying, and Psychic type moves, but heavily exposes it to Water, Grass, Ground, Bug, Ghost, Steel, and Dark types. In strategic battles, these weaknesses must be anticipated, particularly against the widespread Ground and Steel type moves.

Base stats

Solrock's stats are balanced, with solid physical Defense and decent Special Defense. Its HP remains average, which orients it more toward a support or situational tank role rather than a pure attacker. Its moderate Speed, however, limits its direct offensive capabilities without prior setup.

Solrock is distinguished primarily by its durability and defensive versatility, making it an interesting choice in certain teams built around sandstorm or field control.

Main moves and abilities

Rock and Psychic moves

Solrock naturally learns several Rock type moves such as Rock Slide or Stone Edge, ideal for dealing consistent damage. On the Psychic side, it can use Confusion, Psychic, or Psybeam, allowing it to surprise less specially resistant opponents.

It can also exploit Explosion, a high-risk but very high-power move, often used late in battle to create a decisive advantage.

TMs and utility moves

Through TMs, Solrock can learn Light Screen and Reflect, bolstering the entire team's defenses. These moves make it an excellent support Pokémon in strategic battles, particularly in formats where controlling the pace is paramount.

It can also set up terrain-related moves and benefit from the sandstorm, which synergizes well with its Rock typing and improves its overall durability.

Evolution, form, and obtaining

Form and absence of evolution

Solrock is a Pokémon with no evolution. There is neither an evolved form nor a pre-evolution, meaning its potential depends solely on its level, individual values, and move set.

There is no official Mega Evolution for Solrock, but its shiny form is highly sought after by collectors.

Capture and encounter rate

In main series games such as Ruby, Sapphire, or their remakes, Solrock generally appears in desert or rocky areas, often linked to the sun or cosmic phenomena. Its catch rate is standard, making it accessible with reasonable preparation.

Solrock in gameplay and cards

Utility in battle and the league

In battle, Solrock is primarily used for its defensive moves and field control. It is rarely seen as a sweeper, but can surprise with Explosion or well-placed Psychic moves. Its effectiveness depends heavily on team composition and management of its weaknesses.

Presence in Pokémon cards

Solrock has several cards in the Pokémon Trading Card Game. These cards often highlight its moves linked to light, the sun, or rock. Some versions are appreciated for their cosmic artwork, while others find tactical value in specific decks.

For collectors, Solrock remains an iconic third-generation Pokémon, associated with the moon and the sun, forming a symbolic duo with Lunatone.
