Overview of Lunatone

Lunatone is a Rock and Psychic type Pokémon introduced in the third generation. Its English name is Lunatone and its Japanese name is ルナトーン. This Pokémon is directly linked to the lunar cycle and the full moon, which strongly influences its Pokédex description and identity. Lunatone is known for floating silently through the air and absorbing cosmic energy emitted by the moon. It has no evolution, placing it among single-form Pokémon.

Lunatone is often associated with its natural counterpart, Solrock, with which it shares a rivalry based on the sun and the moon. This opposition appears in both its description and in games and certain cards. In versions such as Ruby, Sapphire, Diamond, Pearl, and Black, Lunatone is generally encountered in rocky areas or locations linked to celestial phenomena, with a moderate catch rate.

Type and base stats

Lunatone's Rock typing grants it good resistance against Fire, Flying, and Normal type moves, while its Psychic type allows it to use powerful mental moves such as Confusion or Psychic. However, it remains vulnerable to Water, Grass, Steel, Ground, and Ghost type moves, which significantly impacts its overall Defense.

In terms of base stats, Lunatone has decent HP without being exceptional. Its offensive strength relies more on Special Attack than on physical Attack. Its Defense is average, but its Special Defense is slightly more solid. Its Speed remains low, making it dependent on strategies based on positioning or defensive walls.

Available moves and abilities

Lunatone has a broad range of Rock and Psychic type moves. Among its most commonly used moves, Rock Slide, Ancient Power, Psychic, Signal Beam, and Explosion stand out. These moves allow it to deal respectable damage both in standard battles and in the Pokémon League.

Through TMs and HMs, Lunatone can learn Light Screen, Protect, Sandstorm, and even Tackle. These moves reinforce its role as a support or disruptive Pokémon. In Pokémon GO, its move set generally favors fast Psychic moves and charged Rock moves to maximize power in raids and Gym battles.

Location and catch rate

In the main games, Lunatone is often available in specific areas such as craters, caves, or locations linked to lunar phenomena. Its catch rate is neither low nor high, making it an accessible Pokémon that is not guaranteed to be caught on the first encounter. In certain versions such as Sapphire or Ruby, its appearance sometimes depends on particular conditions.

In Pokémon GO, Lunatone appears during special events or in certain regions of the world, increasing its rarity. This directly influences its price on the card market and in trades between players.

Lunatone in the card game

Cards featuring Lunatone generally exploit its Rock or Psychic type, with mechanics based on defense, indirect damage, or field control. Some cards offer effects linked to chance or to the full moon, reinforcing its cosmic identity.

Shiny or promotional versions of Lunatone are particularly sought after by collectors. Their price varies depending on condition, edition, and rarity, especially for cards from the Diamond, Pearl, or Black series. Lunatone remains an appreciated Pokémon for its unique design and strong connection to the lunar theme, both among players and collectors.
