General Overview of Simisage
Simisage is a Grass-type Pokémon introduced in the fifth generation. Its Japanese name is ヤナッキー. It is the direct evolution of Pansage and represents a more aggressive and mature form of Unova's grass monkey. Simisage is primarily used by players looking for a fast Pokémon capable of dealing decent damage from the mid-game onward.
In the Pokédex, Simisage is listed under the number corresponding to the elemental monkey family. Its appearance is distinguished by a large leaf on its head, an elongated tail, and vines that accentuate its offensive style. Its energetic nature and design make it a Pokémon appreciated both in battle and as a collectible card.
Type, Weaknesses, and Resistances
Simisage has only the Grass type. This type grants it interesting resistances against Water, Ground, and Rock-type moves, which allows it to integrate easily into a balanced team. However, it remains susceptible to several very common types in battle.
Main weaknesses: Fire, Ice, Poison, Flying, Bug
Notable resistances: Water, Ground, Rock, Grass
These weaknesses must be taken into account when building a moveset or choosing battle partners, especially in Black and White where the variety of moves is significant.
Base Stats and EVs
Simisage is oriented toward Attack and Speed. Its base stats allow it to attack quickly, but its Defense and HP remain average. It is therefore advisable to use it as an attacker rather than as a defensive Pokémon.
The recommended EVs generally focus on Attack and Speed in order to reach maximum damage and outpace a large number of opponents at level 50. This distribution is ideal for fast battles and offensive strategies.
Evolution and Acquisition
Simisage is the evolution of Pansage. The evolution is triggered by a Leaf Stone, which means no specific level is required. This allows players to choose the optimal moment to evolve Pansage depending on the moves they want before evolving.
In Pokémon Black and White, Pansage is obtained early in the adventure, making Simisage quickly accessible. This ease of evolution makes it a popular choice for early teams.
Main Moves and Useful Abilities
Simisage naturally learns several Grass-type moves focused on power and offensive pressure. Vine Whip and Razor Leaf are often used early on, while Giga Drain provides a good balance between damage and HP recovery.
Recommended Grass moves: Vine Whip, Razor Leaf, Giga Drain
Coverage moves: Crunch, Power-Up Punch, and varied Normal-type moves
Thanks to available TMs and HMs, Simisage can learn additional moves to surprise opponents and cover certain weaknesses.
Simisage in the Pokémon Trading Card Game
In Pokémon cards, Simisage is often represented as a Grass-type card oriented toward fast attacks. Its cards highlight its tail and leafy head, with abilities dealing consistent damage or benefiting from Grass energy.
These cards are generally not among the most expensive, but they remain interesting for collectors looking to complete the Pansage line. Certain Black and White editions feature artwork appreciated for their dynamic style and faithfulness to the original design.
