General overview of Serperior
Serperior is a Grass-type Pokémon known by its English name Serperior and its Japanese name ジャローダ. It is the final evolution of Snivy, after Servine, and represents one of the iconic starters of the Unova region in Pokémon Black and Pokémon White. Serperior embodies a strategic style of battle based on Speed, field control, and the exploitation of its signature Ability.
In the Pokédex, Serperior is described as a majestic Pokémon that intimidates its opponents with its gaze. Its elongated body and fluid movements let it move swiftly and strike with precision. It is particularly appreciated by competitive players for its tactical potential and its ability to turn unfavorable situations around.
Type and base stats
Serperior has only the Grass type. This type grants it useful resistances against Water, Ground, and Electric moves, but exposes it to Fire, Ice, Bug, Poison, and Flying types. Its base stat profile is strongly oriented toward Speed and Special Defense.
Its base values highlight a high Speed, ideal for striking first, and decent Defense. On the other hand, its HP and Special Attack remain average, which requires using it intelligently rather than brute-forcing through. In EV training, Serperior is often maximized in Speed and Special Attack to get the most out of it in battle.
Abilities and strategic role
Serperior's most iconic Ability is Contrary, which reverses stat drops into boosts. This Ability transforms normally penalizing moves into genuine strategic assets. Thanks to it, certain moves become central to its competitive set.
Serperior can also have a Hidden Ability, making it even more interesting for players seeking an advanced strategic approach. In battle, it is often used as a Pokémon pivot capable of applying pressure while remaining difficult to counter.
Most-used moves
Serperior has a wide range of Grass-type moves and support moves. Leaf Storm is its signature move, particularly powerful thanks to the Contrary Ability, which converts the Special Attack drop into a massive gain. Vine Whip remains a secondary physical option, while Grass Knot allows it to handle heavier opponents.
It can also learn moves such as Light Screen or Reflect to support a team, as well as moves from TMs and the move tutor. This diversity of moves allows for the creation of several sets suited to strategic combat or team play.
Serperior in battle and counters
In battle, Serperior excels in matchups where Speed and anticipation are essential. It is particularly effective against Water, Ground, and Rock Pokémon, but remains vulnerable to Fire and Ice moves. Steel and Poison types also constitute solid counters if well prepared.
To counter it, it is advisable to use Pokémon capable of tanking Leaf Storm or attacking on the physical side with super-effective moves. Despite this, a well-played Serperior can quickly become a serious threat.
Pokémon cards and presence in the games
Serperior is available in several expansions of the Trading Card Game, notably with highly sought-after Serperior EX versions. These cards highlight its elegance and strategic power, which directly influences their price and popularity.
In the main series games, Serperior is obtained through evolution at a high level and is not always easy to capture directly. It is also present in Pokémon GO during certain events, raids, or specific periods, making it a Pokémon appreciated both in battle and in collection.
