Detailed information

General overview of Seel

Seel, known by its Japanese name パウワウ, is a pure Water-type Pokémon highly appreciated in the Pokédex for its ease of use and its ability to evolve into Dewgong. This seal Pokémon has a very recognizable pale blue coat, a rounded head, and a tail adapted for swimming. For players, Seel remains useful early in an adventure thanks to its quick access to Water and Ice moves, which are essential in icy areas or in the Seafoam Islands, the iconic location where it often appears. Seel cards are also common in collections, particularly in classic sets centered on aquatic Pokémon.

Type, base, and stats

In the Pokédex, Seel is a pure Water-type Pokémon, even though it learns many Ice moves such as Icy Wind, Ice Shard, or Ice Beam. Its stats remain modest with decent HP, but fairly good Defense and endurance for a Pokémon at a low level. Its base is not oriented toward raw power, but rather toward resilience and the ability to take hits in the early game. Attack and Speed values remain low, which often pushes the player to wait for its evolution to enjoy better performance.

Evolution and key levels

Seel evolves into Dewgong starting at level 34. This evolution is important for players, as it immediately improves power, Defense, and access to more powerful Water and Ice moves. Leveling Seel up to this point requires a bit of patience, but in the Kanto games like Let's Go, Pikachu!, it is fairly simple to catch several in the Seafoam Islands or certain caves to quickly form a balanced team.

Moves and key abilities to keep in mind

Seel learns many useful moves for beginners. Its main attacks include Water Gun, Aqua Jet, Lick, Headbutt, Icy Wind, Aurora Beam, and Ice Beam. Players who enjoy Ice-oriented builds particularly appreciate its early access to these techniques. For TMs, you can teach it Waterfall, Rest, or even some more powerful Ice moves depending on the version. Even if its power is not exceptional, it remains capable of handling Fire-, Rock-, or Ground-type Pokémon in the early game.

Location, breeding, and Pokédex information

Seel is found primarily in the Seafoam Islands, but also sometimes on certain ocean routes depending on the Pokédex version. In Pokémon GO, Seel appears regularly in areas near water and can reach a reasonable maximum CP, even if its strategic use remains limited. It exists in both female and male forms with no notable major difference. It can be bred with other Pokémon in the Water group and produces eggs that generally contain a small Seel ready to level up.

Seel Pokémon cards

Seel cards are present in several sets, particularly in collections centered on aquatic Pokémon. They are often characterized by simple attacks like Aurora Beam or Water Gun, with a low Energy cost. For collectors, Seel is not among the rarest cards, but it remains appreciated for completing an evolutionary line with Dewgong. Its older versions from the Wizards block or certain special editions with a blue theme remain particularly sought after by players wishing to enrich their collection article or sheet.
