Detailed information
General overview of Dodrio
Dodrio is a Normal and Flying type Pokémon, known in English as Dodrio and in Japanese as ドードリオ. It is the direct evolution of Doduo, generally obtained around level 31 in most main games. Larger, faster, and above all equipped with three heads, Dodrio immediately becomes an offensive asset in a team oriented around speed and raw power. Its three beaks and three brains allow it to react at extreme speed, which is felt in battle where it can outpace the vast majority of wild Pokémon encountered on the first advanced routes.
Useful information for the Pokémon games
In the Pokédex, Dodrio is described as a running Pokémon capable of reaching 60 km/h thanks to its muscular legs. Its dual Normal and Flying typing influences its weaknesses: it remains vulnerable to Ice, Rock, and Electric, but enjoys a complete immunity to the Ground type. In battle, its specialty rests on its very high Speed stat and powerful physical attacks like Brave Bird, Stone Edge (via TM depending on the generation), or Headbutt. Its HP and Defense remain modest, making it a pure attacker that must strike first to maximize its effectiveness.
Dodrio also learns useful moves to cover several types, for example Feather Dance to hinder the opponent, or Drill Peck, Rock Slide, and Beak Blast in certain versions. Depending on the chosen nature, a player can optimize a build focused on Attack with Jolly or Adamant. Strategically, it is often used as a fast physical sweeper in teams that rely on offensive pressure. Its ability can vary between games: some Dodrio have Early Bird or Competitive, but its hidden ability Quick Feet makes it particularly dangerous on terrains where it is slowed or affected by a status condition.
Evolution, levels and availability
Dodrio evolves exclusively from Doduo, and this evolution requires no stone or special item. Leveling up between 15, 20, or 25 in certain routes of older generations quickly yielded a Dodrio for your team. Depending on the games and their encounters, it can also be found directly in the wild, primarily in grassy areas or on advanced routes. This varies depending on the generations, remakes, and adaptations such as Pokémon GO.
In Pokémon GO, Dodrio can reach a respectable maximum CP, depending on individual values (IVs) and the virtual EVs specific to the game. Its raid performance is average, but it is useful for completing a fast Normal and Flying set. Its catch rate is not exceptional, and players often need to use berries or aim for excellent throws to secure a specimen with good values.
Technical overview: stats and type
Dodrio benefits from a fairly offensive base total: a high Attack stat, very strong Speed, and relatively weak defenses. Its dual Normal and Flying type gives it interesting coverage in many battles. Its size and weight vary slightly between versions, but it remains a fairly light Pokémon for its power, which reflects its running-oriented species. Dodrio's heads can express three different emotions, sometimes influencing its behavior in certain Pokédex entries.
Pokémon cards and collection
Dodrio cards have seen several versions over the generations. Some editions highlight the power of its Flying or Normal attacks, with low energy costs for a fast impact. The most appreciated sets often feature dynamic illustrations where its three heads appear in motion. Prices generally remain accessible, except for a few older or rare cards from the earliest generations.
Team utility and tips
Dodrio is perfect for players looking for a fast Pokémon capable of applying pressure right from the start of battle. It fits well in offensive teams or those built around pivoting, thanks to escape moves like U-turn in certain versions. It is not designed to tank hits, but when it strikes first with its powerful Flying attacks, it can knock out fragile opponents very quickly. It is an effective and classic choice for players looking for a simple, fast, and efficient option from the mid-game onward.
